    don't worry

    Sums,

You are a US citizen right? Don't worry about the residency. If you do well and pass the USMLE stepsand do your clinicals then all will be fine. There are no shortages of residencies. Look at all the empty residency positions that go unfilled. Check it out on the Valuemd website. Just worry about you studies.

what frankenstone says is generally true, with the following caveats:
    1) no visa issues
    2) pass usmle first try
    3) trying for an easy match (FP, IM, peds, etc...)
    4) your school of choice does not lock you out of the bigger states

with xavier, the last one may be a slight problem. i think NY, TX and CA are out, and that is a very large percentage of the residency programs

also, remember that if you are considering a more competitive specialty, it is VERY POSSIBLE that you will not get a residency in that field, regardless of where you attend.

generally, it is a better idea to go to proven, established schools. schools that have grads in all specialties and licenesed in all states are the best. at least the school should be eligible for licensing in all states. xavier has a place, but should certainly not be on the first choice list except in very rare instances.

    I'm not a US citizen

I'm not a US or a Canandian citizen so I guess, by what you implied, it would be real hard for me to get a residency position in the US huh? Do you know of anyone that has attended Xavier and taken the USMLE? Have you started your rotations as yet or will you be starting them soon (Frank)?
