Did ANYONE match this year at all???

    Advertisements

Last year, a lot of noise was made about the high match rate. Of course, it wasn't said that the most of them were scramble spots in the first annual clusterf#ck known as the SOAP...when the programs just turned off their filters and started looking at everyone. Now that the programs have figured out how to use the filters to their advantage, did ANYONE match...scramble or otherwise???

Ok, I know people are interested in knowing this info...for the simple fact that 119 of you looked at this post in less than a day. I'll start out, not only did I not match, but nobody I know did either....that includes the soap.

If you didn't match or scramble in, there's no shame in it. Ask yourself how much feed back you were afforded throughout your training to groom you for presentation to program directors(PD)? A better question yet, have you even met a PD in your 4 years? If not (which is likely), then how could you read their mind(s)?

We all must carry the weight of these outcomes. But it is not an exclusively personal failure, (if a failure at all)...It is only through embarrassment and shame that we don't talk about the real reasons this is happening.
THAT LITERALLY HELPS EVERYONE AT OUR EXCLUSIVE EXPENSE.

To those that did match, if you're out there, speak up! I want to personally extend a congratulations...hell, even buy you a bottle of champagne (if you drink). You deserve to be celebrated!

The rest of us need to have a discussion. We are only relevant to the medical community right now, in this moment. Not after we disperse and hide the letters M.D. for fear of yet another explanation offered to yet another person who has no clue what you went through, just to not be able to practice medicine.

If you had the courage to put yourself through this much professional hazing...you have the courage to speak up now!

And if you got a spot...Cheer it from the rafters!!!

The whole point of putting this out there is that one would hope that it is just incidental that clinical students are scattered to the winds and thus less likely to recognize serious-issues trends.
Of the others that I knew about attempting to match, 4 of them told me that they didn't match, or place in the soap, or scramble...or anything. There are more around, albeit only the school and those individuals know where they are, but have yet to share with anybody else. Which leads to the assumption that nobody did.

We all know what happens when one assumes...so again, anybody???

And yes, we 5 all aimed for Family, prelim IM, AMD prelim surg...basically anywhere less competative than the others.
    So it wasn't unrealistic expectations.

I think once the students leave basic sciences and enter into clinical training phase normally the contact between the students from basic sciences and students in clinical sciences becomes less. So it is difficult to get the correct information. I think Xavier has a strong program and who ever made it through the program should do well. I know some of friends went through basic sciences and now in clinical training. Would be good to know how they are doing. Over a period of time we loose the contact slowly as every one is busy on their own.

As good of an educational experience as it may be, I'd have to contend that the selection by a Program Director to accept you into their residency program is the final objective measure of its value. After all, you can't practice without the residency.

    So again, did ANYBODY match?
