Ok, I know people are interested in knowing this info...for the simple fact that 119 of you looked at this post in less than a day. I'll start out, not only did I not match, but nobody I know did either....that includes the soap.
If you didn't match or scramble in, there's no shame in it. Ask yourself how much feed back you were afforded throughout your training to groom you for presentation to program directors(PD)? A better question yet, have you even met a PD in your 4 years? If not (which is likely), then how could you read their mind(s)?
We all must carry the weight of these outcomes. But it is not an exclusively personal failure, (if a failure at all)...It is only through embarrassment and shame that we don't talk about the real reasons this is happening.
THAT LITERALLY HELPS EVERYONE AT OUR EXCLUSIVE EXPENSE.
To those that did match, if you're out there, speak up! I want to personally extend a congratulations...hell, even buy you a bottle of champagne (if you drink). You deserve to be celebrated!
The rest of us need to have a discussion. We are only relevant to the medical community right now, in this moment. Not after we disperse and hide the letters M.D. for fear of yet another explanation offered to yet another person who has no clue what you went through, just to not be able to practice medicine.
