Any ex-Xavier student dissing their own skool is NOT a valuable MD.

Any ex-Xavier student dissing their own skool is NOT a valuable MD.

I’m assuming they didn’t give it their honest effort and now need a scapegoat.

Xavier is an excellent and upcoming med school:

    1) The school’s progression is based on giving each student the opportunity to do his/her BEST on USMLE.

    a. Each course teaches you what you really need to know well and focus on for the medical field and USMLE….no extra ** or 10 competing teachers in each subject throwing in unnecessary research…..no impossible exam questions aimed at filtering students out of the school gradually…..no distractions in the academia.
    b. We’re the ONLY school I’ve heard of that gives NBME’s as final exams in the most important subjects. National Board Medical Exams are like USMLE but specific for each subject. This is a HUGE opportunity for practice and keeping track of your own progress.
    c. Lets face it, when it comes to getting into residencies/jobs later….USMLE is going to count much more than which Caribbean Med skool you choose based from whichever advertisements advertisements advertisements .

    2) You learn a lot IN CLASS (Obligatory From 8-3 every day), this means more time for enjoying the island and actually living healthily/relatively normal lives.

    a. The Dean makes sure each class is taught by competent professors…sometimes he even sits in the class unexpectedly. Both teachers and students kinda freak out but its pretty funny and def worth it.
    b. I’m not much of a text book learner. To tell you the truth I didn’t read the textbooks at all last term but I did really well on Physio and Biochem NBME’s; just from the powerpoints, class, practice questions, and discussions that Xavier offers.
    c. People are saying theres a lot of family ties in administration….I think like 3 people are related or something. I don’t know but last time I checked family helps improve/promote any project for the best. If theyre good….theyre good and will work hard to keep it good for all.

    3) Aruba’s an AWESOME Island.

    a. Never seen so many excellent and diverse food options/restaurants in one area. Even the main grocery stores have a diverse USA and European influence: Aruba is a Dutch Island.
    b. Its safe! I mean they make a huge deal when one chick (who looked kind of sketchy and not really a safe-seeker) got lost 2 years ago. Obviously it doesn’t happen often which is surprising for such a touristi island.
    c. Houses are great. Weather is unbeatable!!!! So many events. Awesome night life. The locals have seen white people before. Always new faces. Great stores. Diverse areas: land/water/hills, etc.

    4) The price.
is unbeatable and you also have the opportunity to get scholarships, which makes everyone work even harder.

Is there a reason you spell school as "skool?" It adds to the argument that Xavier students are mostly the ones who did pre-med there are are still very young and it shows.

I think the issue you bring up with the step 1 and the classes is getting better. Xavier seems to be hiring some better people and retaining them. And doing well on the Step 1 is up to you.

But the part that is the most scary about Xavier is the clinicals. Most of the hospitals listed on the site are not even rotations anymore, whether they lost them or had troubles. Xavier is unwilling to give you contacts of recent graduates who are in residency. Are you kidding? What is the best proof to a prospective student that this school will get you where you want to be? It's actual people who are in residency now. And don't tell me all that stuff about privacy. Every reputable school in the caribbean can provide a list of graduates that you can speak with and talk about their experience with.

If you go through the residency hospitals on Xavier's website, many of them don't even have residents from Xavier when you go to current residents. I believe Xavier is "stretching the truth" or flat out lying about its clinicals and residency positions.

I just spell skool like that sometimes, my goal was to give my opinion on the skool right now to other prospective students....not debate formally with people holding grudges. For the record I went to University of Pennsylvania, not sure if you know of it but its in Philadelphia.

Anyway I know the people running the school would not want to cause any such unfair problems with any of their students or their families. Especially if there's relatives attending the skool, dont u think? Also, I have a feeling if some of the hospitals no longer have rotations; they'll put the students in one of the many other one's we're affiliated with. Its not like we're competing with 100 Caribbean skools to get into NY.

Really seems like what you're saying is too heavily opinionated to be factual, plus even if any of that were true, theres always ways reasons for the changes and ways to get around them. No one's getting skrewed out of clinicals if they pass step 1, thats just the way it is in the States and USMLE

Opinionated and not factual? Are you kidding?

I went through all the hospital rotations that Xavier listed on their site, and called them, and many of them have not even heard of Xavier. I went through the residency hospitals they listed, and found several that had no residents from Xavier.

They are being shady about their clinicals and residency positions, and it's time for prospective students to wake up. This is ultimately your end goal, to get a residency.

Your name fit the role you are playing here...Joker, huh? Do you wanna transfer to Xavier University or you have no life and all you do is pick up a phone and start calling all hospitals to know if Xavier have residency there? Go get a life! Have you ever heard there was Xavier University student who finished his USMLE and pass and couldnt get a hospital for rotation? @mgioia dont waste your energy for people like this.

ACTUALLY, yes. I have passed Step 1, and both Step 2's and was only able to do 1 (one) rotation in a hospital...a hospital I had rotated through before transferring (and therefore knew people to help me get in) into XUSOM. All the rest of my rotations have been in clinics. And no, none of these clinics have been affiliated with a residency-holding hospital. So none of these attendings could vouch for me with any weight, beyond the standard letter of recommendation.

Sword of Truth, your tone of condescention only detracts from the conversations on this forum. What exactly is your intention here. Just seems like you are slinging mud on behalf of the school you claim not to be working for. I sincerely hope you are better than this.

Xavier is a joke of a school.

No one from this school has ever passed step 1. The ones that did were transfers and even they took 3+ attempts.

All students try 4+ times and then start selling medical instruments.

Their dean will fail the step 1 if he took it.

So, please stay away from Xavier...
