Pass rate of USMLE Step 1 of recent class?

    Advertisements

What was the recent Step 1 pass rate for the last class that just took the exam? I wanted to hear from actual students. Since the class size is only around 30 students, you can easily figure this out.

I have heard anything from 75% from school officials to around 30-50% pass rate for Step 1 from other students on messageboards.

This is a common area of confusion. In reality, both may be right by the question you asked. But I'm not surprised if the administration wasn't forthcoming with the full stories beyond answering only your question. (This is common for nearly every carib school and is a trait you'll learn when your patient asks a question since you are liable for anything you say as a health care provider. It keeps you truthful, just not forthcoming; which is a whole other issue of "trustworthy.") Assuming that all answers are accurate- which is fair to say- then the students are answering 30-50% for first attempt pass rates whereas the school may be answering for all attempt pass rates.

Only ECFMG knows absolutely since students can request for the school to not get their score. But if a student doesn't request a rotation, one might be safe in assuming they hadn't passed if they were certified to take the test. But a passing score means entrance into qualified clinicals. So, perhaps the school would have a fairly accurate estimate of how many eventually passed.

I would encourage specificity about your question! Otherwise, you might be misled
