Straight forward- No, this school is not approved. I've not seen on a set date for a clinical inspection date to be approved, nor on how far the school has progressed, or if it has even applied for approval. I would encourage you to call the NY state department of education for independent confirmation because I stopped asking the ed department after they told me their nearest inspection date was 2 years away for another school (and that call was last year). Perhaps something has changed...who knows? So again, I would encourage you to make the call.

What you as a potential student can do, is up to 3 months of electives in the state of NY.

As to residencies: somewhere on the XUSOM website I once saw that a student placed at Coney Island Hospital. I was, and am, in the process of looking for places to do electives in NYC. Since the school's only been open for just over 5 years, if this grad had a categorical spot, they should have been there. So I figured that if they'd be willing to have a conversation over a free lunch, I'd find out more about clinical spots former Xavier students have rotated through for leads, as well as seeing if the Hospital would let us rotate there. However, after calling the graduate medical education office at the hospital, they said they don't know of any current resident on record having graduated from XUSOM. Since I had them on the phone, I asked about electives for Xavier students who have already passed Steps 1 and 2. But, as usual for NYC, I was informed that St. Georges has an exlusive contract with the hospital. Only American Medical School students can rotate through there. As a current clinical student, I wish I had better news to report. But again, I encourage you to call around and verify.
