    License

    Advertisements

    Hey All

I'm sorry if I post to many threads with questions, =X

But anyways, I don't have a US license due to a mix up with the office but I was wondering if we're allowed to drive without one? Are the Aruban police strict with this sort of thing?

Is driving/ buying a car without a license even feasible?

    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

I have been here for almost 4 weeks now and I saw 2 cops maybe. There are no traffic laws here, so no worries about driving without a licence. You will have a problem when you go to rent a car, since they would want a copy of your licence. If you decide to buy a car... owner will sell it to you, but you won't be able to register it.

It's kinda of a YES and NO

You must be kidding right???, it is true cops almost are nowhere to be seen, but once to 3 times a quarter a medical student gets in a fender bender here in aruba because of the different dutch trafic signs, dust in the roads or drunken drivers. If you crash or are crashed, you will be responsible for the whole payment (it doesnt matter whos fault it was because you dont have a liscence), you will be taken to jail for driving without a licence and likely deported from Aruba, (they will take your passport until all is clear) and god forbid you hurt someone because then you will not face deportation, but will gain a paid vacation at the penitentiary in San Nicolas.
It is really out of my realm of comprehension how a future doctor is even considering such an illegal act.
If you need transportation why not rent a car 1/2 with an other student that does have a drivers license.

^^I did say if this was feasible or not... No need to be like that. No harm in questions right?

Thank You for your input though, it's appreciated.

Hey you should really go to the DMV and get your license. It's always a good idea to have a few different forms of identification in general. Like if you lose your passport or something you'll have your drivers license as a backup.

And yeah I really wouldn't drive around without a license, no matter where you are.

No one said he/ she would be driving without a licence. It was just a question, So if i were you I would calm down.

Anyways.. I think hollboy is right, you should try and get your licence or simply get a ride off someone.

I was on the island for 4 semesters and didn't get pulled over even once by a cop. I didn't get in a fender bender either. I rented a car and was not asked for my license. There are barely any traffic laws there, like someone above stated, and as long as you know how to drive, you don't need a license. It's almost too good to be true.

Now if you happen to get pulled over(because you were speeding, driving drunk, or doing something else you're not supposed to), or you get in a car accident, then yes, maybe then you would need a license to prevent you from getting in trouble.
That's the honest info. I can give you regarding my experience there and several others when it comes to having a drivers license.
