Loans are hard to find. Canadians have it a bit easier, you can take out lines of credit. You could also do that in America, take a line of credit out on your house or something.

But no matter how you go about it, loans are difficult to find for any Caribbean school outside the big 4. Most people get funding from their family or have money saved up from a previous career.

    Loans

    08/15/10

    1. It seems that lot of students are pursuing this apartment hence I am exploring other alternatives.

One of them is a private house (with an apartment with multiple bedrooms for rental) purported to be close to Xavier. Couple of students from Xavier, are already renting rooms in this apartment and it has one/ two vacancies. Unfortunately this place does not have any A/C.

I would appreciate it if someone can provide input on how necessary is it to have an A/C (particularly keeping the summer semester of 2011 in mind).

Are there portable "coolers" available on rental (in case it seems necessary to have an A/C)?

    Thanks.

    II. Riyap:

You are correct that funding our education in the Caribbean Schools is a tough proposition. Here are some observations:

    1. As regards the cost of education during the pre-clinical phase, Xavier offers an "installment payment plan" which may be helpful in managing your "cash flow".
    2. Besides, (as per my limited knowledge) the tuition amount for studying in Xavier is one of the lowest (if not THE lowest and this perhaps lends additional value to joining Xavier particularly if you are "self financing").
    3. The real challenge could be during the rotations for which no "installment payment plan" is available and even though this is 5 semesters ahead, it is imp. to plan ahead.
    4. Hollboy’s suggestions above are really excellent in case you have not considered them.

My parents are also discussing with one of the banks about possibility of a "personal loan" particularly for the clinical rotations and I will share the outcome in case it is of any help to you and others.
