    January 2017 Med-1 Spring Semester

    Advertisements

    Hello,

I figured that I'd start this thread so that everyone could possibly become acquainted before the semester begins. Does anyone know of a Facebook page that has been created for our semester? What is everyone doing for housing?

Hey what about Windsor made it appeal to you over the other caribbean medical schools? I'm from the Caribbean and having a tough time narrowing it down

The huge scandal surrounding it. The fact that they stop putting through people's student loans.

There was this one time(during registration) where I was told my tuition was not paid and the accountant smirked at me as if he thought it was funny. He told me that I had to pay right away or I would not be allowed to start the semester. However, what he did not know was that I was tracking the tuition-check and I had records of Windsor cashing the check(a few weeks earlier) that they had claimed I did not submit. When I pulled up the records and showed him, he ignored me. So I called my dad on the spot and the accountant panicked and said, "Oh don't call your dad, your check is right here"

Why do I love Windsor? Because I learned that controlling your temper takes you further than strangling someone and that Windsor will never let you down because this is an honest and trustworthy business.

that accountant is a loolah. i remember the line outside his office and his office itself smelled like when someone took a big poo and tried to cover it up with lots of air freshaner. too bad he was the big poo.

come to windsor just to get the transcript that says you passed their bogus classes. study hard for Step which most people dont and then they fail. if you study properly then windsor is just a ticket for step. they know this and they know only 20-30% pass step and even fewer match. so they are in it to make as much money as possible for those 5 semesters you are there with retake fees and other random bogus fees.

read properly and do qbanks all the semesters and pass their exams and get off that island by any means necessary. cheat if you have to however this will hurt in the long for the usmle. but if it gets you off island, do it. do not get cuaght in their money making quicksand.

if you have retakes, admin will treat you like a third class citizen even though they know they are taking in unmotivated students that don't study. pass your step and match and they will treat you like royalty. that should tell you the caracter of these people. still it is the cheapest school to attend but you get what you pay for. if you do well, you are the cheapest medical student and have less debt at the end. if you flop around, you or your parents will be very poor from the debt but no degree. and it will be regret you feel for a very long time. if you are lucky and still have money afterwards, you will "settle" for nursing degree from your home country when all is said and done. a lucky few carib students in general have had to settle for that route but that is not right either.

when I started years ago, everyone said the same thing. study hard and do well and get out of the school. this is true. but so much harder done than said. but it is true. if you are tutti student in high school or got kicked out of college, windsor is not for you. it will take your money and you will fail out from there as well with no degree and failed step exams. it is not school's fault. it is the student that think they can change their study habits overnight. it takes years and medical school is not the time to try what works and what does not.

Basically this! ^^^^^^ One thing I might add is that try to study for your STEP as early as possible. By the time you are done with the island, you should be able to pass your STEP if you took it the very next day. Classes at Windsor should be a review/brush-up for you and NOT the first time seeing that subject . Trust me, it made it so much easier for me when I got out because MD5 was just 4 months of straight review, basically icing on the cake. Other than that, PnS11 covered everything so good luck!

I've been hearing a lot of positive reviews about Windsor ever since they changed their Dean and are looking to get CAAM-HP accreditation. I know too that in the last three years they have been very successful with residency matching. But the common theme is that Caribbean Medical Schools are all about what the student puts in so I am mentally prepared to heed your advice. Thanks for all the info and advice, Much Appreciated.

i do not like to harp on being negative but there is no slogan for being a caribbean medical student, or any student for that matter.. "what the student puts in" is exactly what is said by people that end up NOT doing the work.

you should understand that your job is to be a student and it should not change whether you are in the carib or in india, canada, US, etc.

what CNS said about studying early is very true. it will go a long way. but most students do not do this and they scramble at the end, fail the comp at the end of md5, and blame the school.

if you treat your schooling like your job then it should not be an issue at the end to pass the comp and take the exam.

since the new dean is here it seems the school has stopped flopping students over and instead there is internal disagreement. the clinic coordinator in chicago "deep sand" has been bilking students of money for some time now. they have done a complete makeover on clinical advisors as well. so yes, things are better for students becuase there are more services available but since the dean has come in and cleaned house, there are more internal squabbles though seemingly by no fault of the dean. timing was a coincidence.

go to the island and get out. simple as that. it should be a given that doing well depends on "how much you put in."
