Canadian Students after Md5, The brampton meeting

    Advertisements

Hello friends, doctors, I just wanted to know if any of the Canadian students who attended the meeting on may 23rd, in brampton, got any email, or any conclusion/ outcome from it? Whats happening/ going on, I heard students got a email saying they have to attend some three month prep program.. can someone please shed some light?

From previous thread someone said they dismissing students systematically? How true is that?
Why is it only Canadian students, why not american's as of yet? I know many students... who have to do their step yet... and are still preparing... Does anyone have any useful information.... causing to be honest... this is just adding extra stress on students who are preparing....please do reply!!

    Hey,

I received the email too. They said rotations start on the 8th in Brampton. I am told that I have to do a Windsor approved prep course and a 12 week- USMLE preclinical electives. I have not heard back from them. No idea where to go in Brampton. :s

I had some concerns about this as well. I'm very close to writing my step 1 (less than a month away) and this was a very unexpected email that came out of nowhere it seems. I dont have any intention of changing my Step Date and I'm a student who is still within my 6 month time period of studying for this exam.. not to mention I don't live anywhere close to Toronto at all so it wouldn't exactly be something where I'm travelling from home or anything. It would just be a large expense. I understand the school's intention but I've been doing well when it comes to studying since I left the island and MD-5 and feel relatively confident going into this exam so I'm not sure what to do in this case

Okay, I heard prep course is 3000 plus dollars, where is a student supoose to get that kind of money let alone pay the debt they are already in. I mean who is making up these new regulations or rules...

True many many students of windsor are from Brampton, how ever my question is how many students of windsor got dismissed after the md5 plus 6 month period, does anyone know, Guys this is all so so confusing. No one to guide us or inform us. I emailed windsor admin at monee office and called there wednesday, they have no clue as to what the meeting was about that took place in brampton!!!

I too understand what the school is worried about, I mean yes we need to get a move on, but the problem is the lady at monee office gave me "a extension" due to personal reasons, after her i showed her my nbme score. So i was a little laid back in studying for the step, months later we attend a meeting, in brampton, the "main" lady there said that the lady that gave you the extension doesn't count!!!! (sorry i don't think i am suppose to use peoples actual names)

Anywho.... yes we as students haven't forgotten that we have to take the step... but many people due to their other obligations or problems have not yet prepared properly for the step but this who "prep course" elective stuff is just adding more stress and problems into the students life..... many people don't have that kind of "3000 dollar plus" money..... and now osap doesn't give us anything!!! What to do????

you should just study and not worry about all this talk. take the exam by august and start in september. you dont need a review course. just do your uworld and first aid and take your exam when you're passing your nbme.

Ok, so from what I heard, the course is $3600 plus if you want their "platinum pass program" it is an additional $400.00. Don't need to do the math here. If you ask me, I do believe that everyone was asked to attend that meeting to assess the amount of customers, they would have. Despite there being threats saying that those that didn't attend the meeting would be dismissed, I am still waiting to see that happen.

I cannot believe that at this point in time, students who have booked their steps, are asked to take this course. I fail to see the logic. Why is it only those in Brampton and nearby vicinities are asked to attend this course and not others?

I highly doubt that this is legal. If Windsor decides to dismiss all students who are over 6 months, then include everyone, don't be selective based on geography. I now see why Windsor is getting such a bad rep, it is situations like this that ruins the school's reputation.

At a time like this, there are many students who have booked their steps and will be taking their steps soon, and therefore should not be put through this stress of attending this course plus forking up $4000,00 and to add salt to the wound - Windsor is not qualified for OSAP! at least for now.

dude, its not that hard. 80% of the school is from the toronto area. they're not picking on poor indian families who drive trucks and taxis for a living to milk the last drop of money from them. if windsor had no US students attending their school, it would not pinch them too much. however, 80-90% of the school is canadian and 80-90% of canadian students are from the province of ontario.

if they're having an issue rounding up lazy students to take the exam, they will start at the most student-dense area. which is toronto. they're not trying to screw over canadians. they just opened up a program there to let students do something instead of nothing towards taking their exam.

whether the money is worth it or not, is another thing, but they're not taking jersey, NY, and chicago windsor students that haven't taken the exam and making them go to freaking brampton to attend this course.

do yourselves a favor and sign up for kaplan or becker, if they are going on now or soon, or sign up for the pass program in illinois since they have rolling admission dates and you can start any time (from what i have heard and seen too).
