Can someone please help? Stressed about my situation

    Advertisements

    Hi guys,

I'm considering starting medicine at Windsor either in Sept 2014 or Jan 2015 for MD. My situation involves the fact that I do honestly wanna give Canadian schools an honest shot. I have a decent GPA and an average MCAT score. Given that getting into Canada is a blind shot, I'm kind of worried about wasting my time any further. I turned 24 a couple of months ago and would like to start ASAP.

Now, while I could apply for schools here, I am also considering moving to another province in Canada to be able to apply there as well since I have time off. However, that'd mean that I can't study at Windsor simultaneously while waiting to hear from Canadian schools as I had planned previously. So it's a matter of either/or. Can someone please advise me on this matter? I am mostly worried about time and the age factor. What's the average class age is like at Windsor in MD1? Sorry if this sounds dramatic, but it is important for me.

I would honestly really appreciate your input on this matter.

    Thanks

To be honest, you are not too old. Studying in Canada is much better than studying in Caribbean. I would say give few months to try in Canada and if you still don't get it there then you can move to Windsor. It is not just joining the Caribbean Medical school, you have to study hard to pass the board exams to get certified. If you are not able to pass the board exams your career opportunities will be very few. Give you best shot at it and see if you can get into a school in Canada.

I agree. If your stats are even decent, I recommend trying to get into a Canadian school. I realize they are harder to get into that even US MD schools, but are US MD or DO schools an option for Canadians? I think they are as I have read about students from Canada coming to US schools, and vice versa. A US school will probably take you with a 3.5/28 MCAT, although it could be more likely a DO school. Which is respectable, still.
