What to study for H&P Exam?

    Advertisements

Does anyone know what exactly we are supposed to know for the H&P exam? I have asked the people here in Carbondale and they wont tell me anything specific and its very frustrating. If someone can help me out with what I should be studying for, I would appreciate it a lot.

    Thank you!

You cant really do anything specific to prepare for that exam because it encompasses all of basic science. I had mine last semester and found that the H&P classes were useless. Just study hard during MD5 doing FirstAid and UWORLD and you should do fine

The exam has shifted from simply being a Bates question bank exam and into more of a Step 2 exam. You will need to know signs, such as neurological ones including reflexes and such, but you will also need to draw your micro knowledge and apply it much like you did for the comm med exam. Epidemiology and such. There's also a bit of behavioral science in there where they ask about developmental stages and prevalence rates of disease by gender, age, race, etc.

Most people I know make educated guesses about it because they were not prepared for those types of questions and also were not taught the material well through the bogus H&P classes taught at the centers. Most people are passed (note the difference between truly passing by answering questions correctly), while some are unfortunate and have to retake it.

As someone suggested above, focus on your Step prep, do a cram session a night or two before the exam and hope for the best. The instructor there does not make the exam but will still tell you what he thinks will be on the exam. It will most likely be wrong. Memorize Bates questions, skim through Bates videos, which you kind of do during H&P lecture, and move on.

You just do what I told you in my message and you should be fine. Try to pass the quizzes, they are easy to pass if you give couple of hours in the morning to the Windsor material ,don't miss more than one class and just follow the rules. I was given really good advice by Pns11(thank you so much) which I followed and did fine. Classes are useless and exam review is also no help.
They want to see you are serious about studying and they also know you were not taught anything much in the semester.
Quizzes are mostly either easy basic science material or from their material they give you.I know power points are useless and I wish that the cases were written in a better organized manner but cases are not useless information, its all high yield which one should know for the exam. We were told to follow only power points and cases not the pearls. so better ask S,he is very helpful.
