What is this all about GMC Standing?

    Advertisements

Overseas medical qualifications which may be accepted by the UK General Medical Council I see Windsor is under investigation in the UK. This happened in October 2012 and it appears it has not been resolved yet. It will be good to hear from somebody at Windsor whether these are issues that have been corrected and they are waiting for a review from GMC or is it something which will stay and become permanent. If that is so what will happen then to other accreditation. I did try to communicate directly but have had no response. I would also like to remove this post if there is some form of answer from Windsor., it is not my intent to do harm but simply need clarification. I visited the school myself and it is my school of choice and intend to apply for admission but I would like to have this clarified. Even send me a private message. It is not the intention to place something here that will create doubt and especially not so if it is simply GMC dragging their feet about the review of corrections if they were made. I believe the school is proactive but it is my intention to return to the UK and this would be a closed door for me then.

Hi, if you are from UK and planning to apply for PLAB and work as FY1 then windsor school of medicine qualification won't be accepted by GMC. I was going to apply to this school but i backed out because it is not recognized with GMC. I applied SGU and Atlantic University School Of Medicine in st.lucia and was accepted in both but ended up taking offer from Atlantic University in st.lucia due to the fact they have low tution, rotations in UK and it's degree is recognized by GMC. I am starting in May Good luck with everything and hope everything works out. Cheers!!

Should have gone w/ SGU. Much easier to get into the UK through them.

It actually does not make any difference which medical school i graduate from as International Medical Graduate. As long as medical school is not under investigation or in the list of GMC, Only thing is that when i will apply for PLAB it might take couple more weeks to get certified because there are not that many graduates ( or any ) from AUSOM who went through GMC process yet and because SGU is old medical school it would have been smooth process. End of the day doesn't matter which school i graduate from outside UK or EU.

If you like connections then it certainly matters.

If you like a standard medical curricula that will help you pass your plab it certainly does.

AUSOM is a sham school and offers neither, it's where the low tier carib dropouts transfer into.

You're better off starting out with a great school like SGU than starting with one that no one over there has heard of.

Or if you have the money and can't get into a UK school, go to an Irish school. Process will be a whole lot easier than through AUSOM

When you say " connections then it certainly matter" what do you mean? At end of day i want to pass PLAB so even if i study at SGU or AUSOM it does not matter, SGU do not train students specifically from UK different from North American students. In terms of AUSOM is sham school and its tier level for me or for anyone its too soon to speculate as it is new school, at least it is not under investigation through GMC.

I could have gone to irish school but i chose not to coz want to stay away from family for various reasons hahahaa. By the way are you from UK?

    Regards

I am interested to know why you say that, you are very specific. Do you know the reason for the investigation? Thank you for your input.

Hi, i was told by GMC councilor that school is under investigation they were not specific but said it is something to do with transcripts of few students who applied for GMC certification. You should email GMC or go to their website it has all information.

    Good luck
