Congratulations to all those who matched... am I right that 15 Windsor SOM students have matched thus far? That is outstanding relative to the number of students that have matched thus far. I thought this might be an opportune time to share with this forum a recent letter I received from a Windsor Alum who matched and went on to achieve great successes. He asked to remain anonymous, but in light of columbus' request, thought it might be inspiring...

"As an offshore medical school [Windsor] at the time back in 2005 I found communication to be difficult with the administration and things weren't as streamlined as I thought they were for the clinical rotations. In the end though everything worked out and rotations occurred as planned. No real academic hurdles or other issues with regards to medical credentialing. I will say this to be honest: anyone can succeed with any of these types of programs. Don't let the stigma of an offshore medical school discourage you. If you are meant to be successful, have the drive and motivation, you will be successful. In good faith and not to sound boastful, I will share that I did my residency at one of the top five [redacted] programs in the nation and am at the number one [redacted] fellowship in the world and just signed a job contract to be faculty at the premier [redacted] in Boston. And no, I don't have any family in medicine. I didn't have any connections, I made them myself. You should know, [expletive] doctors come from Harvard and Hopkins too in spite of their reputation and abundance of resources. Where you come from when it comes to medical school can only take you so far, then who you are, what you have done, and what your internal fire burns at becomes paramount and center stage. I made my own contacts, I persevered, had a lot of stressful anxiety ridden nights, but I made it. I didn't give up when discouraged and sought help and advice from anyone willing to talk. Coal is plenty, only through years of intense heat, pressure, stress is a rare diamond made. You can be a diamond, but only you can do it. I have come to know a world famous surgeon at Univ of Houston, Brian Cotton, who went to Ross University in the Caribbean. I will tell you, Ross Univ gave him the MD, but it wasn't on their coat-tails that he became who he is now. He made his fate. Windsor can give you the MD but you and only your determination will make your career. I hope this helps and maybe gives you some insight into how people can make diamonds out of coal. You can do it too!.." --Windsor Alumnus

Again, congratulations to all who matched, and to all who didn't, take this advice to heart... dust yourself off and get back on the horse, learn/grow from the experience and don't give up. Best wishes, Medlaw

I'm confused. University of Houston doesn't have a hospital or medical school. I should know b/c I attended that university for undergrad. I'm guessing they mean UT-Houston Health Science Center?

Yes. A quick search yielded a LinkedIn page with those credentials.

I thought we had another troll poster on here, but troll posting inspirational things. I was starting to wonder how far down the rabbit hole went...

No I was not on that page. I do not believe we know each other. But regardless, good luck as we both continue our careers!
