    Paying Tuition

    Advertisements

Hello everyone, with the recent changes about how tuition is paid how are students paying their tuition without additional wire transfer fees or a 3.5% credit card surcharge?

If there are other options please post.

    Thanks

Wire transfer fee has always been there from what I understand although right now it's $45 or 40 rather than before when it was supposedly $30.

If you're paying less than $1000 then a 3.5% credit card surcharge is $35 which is cheaper than a wire transfer. I personally had problems with a previous payment to the school for a smaller amount so I'm never using a credit card again....lets just say that once they get your $ then they won't refund it even if they mistakenly charged despite assuring you that they will and you'll have to go through your credit card company to get it back. If you pay with credit card now then I believe it's online only through a link they'll send you as the credit card form that you used to be able to fax to Monee is not being accepted anymore.

If you're fortunate and live in the US then sending a cheque to Monee might be the best way to go but they won't accept the cheque in any currency other than US so Canadians are out of luck there.

With a wire transfer charge, your bank will usually charge you $30 but if you send from your own account and it's a student account (show them an enrollment letter) then your local bank might waive the transfer charge but you still have to add $40 or $45 to it because the St. Kitts bank supposedly charges you (and most banks here are unaware of that fact).

I think that you can also give them a bank draft of X amount payable to the school but mailing this is probably not a good idea knowing the school (I don't think Monee is accepting bank drafts any longer, only cheques but you should ask them) so I would only use that once on the island (I'm assuming you can draw a draft from the Scotia bank or RBC on the island if you have an account with those two banks or a bank affiliated with RBC). The tuition was also due a month before classes start but the school seems fairly lax about this stuff and if you get to the island before the class start date then you can probably submit them the bank draft.

However, make sure you get a receipt in your e-mail or wherever showing your payment. I personally made a payment recently and have been waiting almost two weeks now for them to send me the receipt and have been unable to contact their phone numbers because one is disconnected and the other is busy, maybe it's because it's the holidays, I'm unsure.
