    Cell phones

So I am planning on bringing my phone to St. Kitts and was wondering how people go about calling home? Do you buy international calling cards or something?

Yes, i understand skype is an option but i would like a phone to speak to family back home as well.

Viber is an android app (probably on apple or something similar on apple too) which lets you call from anywhere to anywhere for free if you're connected to the internet over wifi or data. I'm sure there are similar apps.

Magic Jack and Vonage are a couple alternatives but they have a monthly payment and if you're using an internet app to call then you don't need to pay extra for a monthly service so it would be better to buy a few international calling cards from there which you don't pay monthly for in case you can't call over internet and need to use a land line.

Also, I'm too lazy to check the Digicell website right now but that company probably allows you to call with an add-on or something to NAmerica. Make sure your phone is unlocked as well or their sim card won't work. I'm trying to find a pre-paid phone card in Canada that will allow me to call home from the island in case I'm not able to get a sim card from a phone company from there or internet access.

Oh just another note, I believe Lime (one of the two companies there) operates on GSM frequencies 850/1900 while Digicel operates on 900/1800/1900. Most phones should operate on both those companies in one if not all the frequencies mentioned above without problem but make sure by checking your phone model's specs online to make sure it operates under one of the numbers above.

I'm basing those numbers off of the website of a Canadian phone carrier which lists roaming charges in St. Kitts and it's mentioning that those companies have those frequencies.

I'm planning on bringing a blackberry. Does lime or digicell sell SIM cards for these with which I can use my international calling/prepaid cards?

What's the model number of the BB?

Edit: Digicel sells these blackberries on their site so yours is probably compatible as long as the phone's unlocked:
