MD 5 in ohio versus carbondale

    Advertisements

How does the review course compares. Is there any credit given after you are done? I read here that the Michigan site issues a credit for the ICM but not Carbondale.
If someone familiar with these sites could you please share what you know about all 3 places, review course quality, hotel conditions ,any grades given etc etc? Thanks

Can you please link to the forum post that told you Michigan offered you a credit whereas Carbondale didn't?

I seriously think Windsor students studying for the Step get bored and get on here just to spam the forum with dumb**s questions.

I will link it if I can find it. Its not that hard to believe after hearing so many stories about how the school is disorganized. If someone can verify the info plz do because I am not making this up someone DID post this info.

No. There are no special classes at certain locations. All locations have the same classes.

Ohio is no longer a location and some students that just finished MD4 have said that Michigan will be shut down some time in 2014 as well. Could be a rumor, but Dr. M***oles, I believe, said the same thing to a few batches before.

Carbondale and Michigan are preparing you for the Step. You take a 20 question quiz every morning. These questions are written by Windsor faculty, so they suck. They don't make sense, they are irrelevant, full of typos, and are not USMLE-style at all. Just answer it how you wish, as these actually do not count for anything. I think it's there so that you actually wake up in the morning and start studying on your own, but students still go back to sleep, so it's pretty worthless.

On the island, MD5 has no quizzes. It is not for people taking the USMLE so the semester is littered with hospital visits where you take history and maybe perform some minor procedures. Other than that, you have about two hours of class every day, or maybe three times a week, which is H&P and ICM classes. Some people feel that even if you are taking the Step, taking MD5 on the island is "more useful" or "gives you more time to study."

I will say this: of the US and Canadian students that opted to stay on the island for MD5 as opposed to going to the States for MD5, none have taken the Step as yet. And we are closing in on a year, now, since they finished MD5. So it may not hurt to do it on the island, but it most certainly does not help. Few take advantage of the extra time to study, which might just be a myth to begin with.

Thanks for this info. If the quizzes does not count for anything then I guess it would be perfect to wake up take the quiz and back to your room for studying 8-10 hours following a schedule of your own.
4 months should be enough and one should be able to take the exam soon after MD5.
So its just quizzes every day and no ICM etc right? Plus how long are the morning classes? It would be nice to get done by noon so one can start right away after lunch to midnight to study.

There are no morning classes. Twice a week, maybe, there will be an H&P class where you just watch Bates videos. The class can be anywhere from 45 to an hour and a half.

Some people can make the most of their time in MD5. Most people don't. Some even go so far as to ** themselves that they did, but they really didn't. You'll meet all kinds of students there, especially now that the incoming MD5 class is gigantic.

But sure, 8-10 hours right after the quiz. It's much harder than it may seem.

basically one is paying 7000 dollars just to stay at a crappy hotel and take quizzes. This is so depressing. I am sure there must be serious students studying these 4 months since what else to do there so its better to just get done with the exam during that time.

Yes, that is pretty much what you are doing. It is just one more semester for them to collect money, with or without a teacher there.
