I'm wondering how many parents come along to drop off their kid. It's a new place and I've never personally been there before so I'm thinking of bringing a parent along with me though it seems fairly straightforward.

I would say most students under the age of 24 come with their parents. There are some 26+ year olds that come with their parents.

If you are rather independent, you can manage the first day of school, paying tuition, finding a house, etc. I did it and it was simple.

If you find your parents' judgement always better than yours, then bring a parent or two and let them see the island in the process. There is no harm. Having your parents and siblings and grandparents come drop you off will not make you the odd one out. Plenty of people do it and they should.

Adding to PnS11s comment, its a good idea to bring at least one of your parents along if this is the first time you have left home for an extended period of time like this. It will help you settle in and give them peace of mind.

I can't really comment since I'm not from a desi culture I always found it weird seeing 20+ yr olds being pampered by parents & stuff, but to answer your question it's pretty much the norm there. For all the desi students I'd say about anywhere from 30-50% have parents come to the island with them for awhile

White people not only bring their parents, but those with families sometimes bring them there too. Or at least a spouse or fiance.

Yep. I remember teaching my 26 year old roommate how to use the washing machine. 'Pampered' is one way of putting it.

definitely wasn't the case when I was on the island, but there were only a handful of us caucasians anyway so the population study wasn't exactly a large one.

Yeah. We had one girl and a guy in his 40s with his fiance. Those were the only two. Both had familes in the MD1 WB dinner.

Anyway, the main thing is it is ok to bring your parents. If they're paying for your ***** to be there, they at least deserve to know what they are paying for.
