How long do we have to wait until we take STEP 1 post 5th semester?

There are a lot of rumors going around about when we can take Step 1. Some people say we have to wait 2 years after starting and some say right after MD5. Whats the real answer?

You can finish 5th semester and take the step right away. Anyone who says you need to wait a certain amount of time is incorrect. I took a month and a half after 5th semester and took it no problem. The trick is submitting all your info and signing up for ECFMG while you're still in 5th semester. The day you complete it, the Monee office will submit your info to ECFMG. That process will take a few weeks in total.

On the flip side, if you intend to take more than 6 months off to study, you need to submit a form to Windsor for a leave of absence.

Thank you so much for such a quick reply! So this counts for everyone right? Even students without a bachelors?

    No problem at all.

That is correct. The only time not having a bachelors (or 60+ credit hours as some states require) comes into play is when you're applying for licensure in a specific state that requires a minimum number of credit hours.

Just a minor detail, it appears as if the Monee office is still "open" but is no longer functioning quite the way it used to. J***b, a supervisor-esque employee there is no longer there and is in California. In addition to this, current students know this, all checks are to be made payable to the school and no longer RMTC in the Monee office. No reason was given for this either, but it was a rule instated at the beginning of this current semester.

What I'm getting at is in the past it may have been the Monee office that got the paperwork ready for ECFMG and all that jazz, but with it being confirmed that the Monee office is no longer the center of the US operations, you may want to verify with the school, or maybe even Monee themselves, that your payment has been received and that your paperwork was indeed filled out and mailed. Nothing like surprises from Windsor at the most inopportune times.

If we are about 2 weeks off our 6 months, do we still need to submit the form?
