Applying for Jan/May Incoming MD1 Semester

    Advertisements

I'm debating and wondering if I could get some input: is it better to apply for the January 2012 or May 2012 Semester at Windsor? Thanks.

I believe Jan classes tend to be smaller than the other incoming classes. Also if you are from a cold region you get to dodge severe winter twice (md1 and md4). Other than that I dont see any advantages. If you dont have any compelling issue apply for Jan.

When it comes to clinical rotations and timing for the match and step preparations, there is a huge advantage (in my opinion) to starting in the January semester.

Applying for May semester would be better since the class size is smaller and you get a better professor to student ratio

Easy answer. January, you start earlier, more time for Step 1 and 2 prep, and if clincials wait gets long you don't lose time.

houmd is correct. I started in Jan and if everything goes to plan, I'll finish just in time for the match. As opposed to 4 months later when you've got to wait for the next match 8 months later.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. I will work on my application. Is there any necessity to do Organic Chem before we come? I've passed Biology I and II, Physics I, Chem I and II also. Thanks

Just take orgo and give it your all. It will only be a positive thing for you I promise. Don't let the horror stories of orgo deter you because everyone here could tell you worse horror stories about med school courses much worse than orgo

Hey, I'm gonna be starting this May, so I am guessing I will have to wait 8 months to match. What do students typically do in this time? Do most students starting in May write their step 2s during this time, or are usually they written before?
