    Leave of Absence

    Advertisements

Has anyone ever sent in one of these forms? I was told if I want to take more than 6 months to study for the USMLE, without having to pay the re-activation fee, I need to mail this form in and the dean will review my request. Also, where it says approved by, and there's the signature line, Parent is written beneath it. Does that mean one of my parents has to sign off on the request? That seems a little silly to me. Anyways, any help is appreciated. .

p.s. if anyone has ever been approved for a leave of absence, how long did it take for the dean to respond?

Well typically, its not good to have a leave an abscence for a number of reasons, but only for dire needs. The dean will get your letter for leave of abscence, and from there when you apply for residency, he will a write a deans letter that will be issued to all the programs. If you have a leave of abscence, have a legit reason and not that you were ready for step 1 exam. Also program directors will look at your transcript and cv and ask why you took soo much time off between and ask you what happened. Just keep in mind, everything needs to be documented and well planned.

yes I found that out the hard way and I got charged 1000$.. so if you gonna take time off send that form or whatever they want you to do, also make sure you read the website very carefully so you dont get surprised like I did when they told me I gotta cough up another 1000... however it does raise the question.. how does reactivation cost 1000 dollors?? :S.. anyways after step 1 things get alot better

Thanks for the replies. I'm not applying for the leave of absence. Out of curiosity, does being listed as an "inactive" student for a period show up on your records like a leave of absence does?
