Then there is the money factor ... as you know certain programs/people charge a steep price just because they can.

Also if the hospital is in a state like, idk, Louisianna, the chances of a student from Michigan or NJ to figure that out are slim - let alone go there.

I am optimistic but it seems quite difficult - atleast from the perspective of a student attending a carribbean school.
All of the programs I contacted that were acgme accredited or greenbook pretty much said no. I contacted places in OH, GA, MD, DC, VA. However there are more places willing to take students for electives. here is a website that lists the schools that take international students. make sure you select the option for international

    https://services.aamc.org/eec/students/index.cfm
This website even lists schools in CANADA. VCU in virginia, Emory in GA. There are several other states. Some programs cost alot some not so much

just searched illinois and it only listed two (very good university's) programs. why would it not include the others? surely these two arent the only ones taking IMGs for electives.

By tradition these schools do not take students but if you call and can find someone in the dept in which you wish to rotate to sponsor you then you're in at most places. Just be prepared to show them passing usmle scores and proof of completed rotations etc. Once again this almost exclusively applies to electives

Just got my full license to practice medicine in the great state of Florida, add that to a Mississippi license. Little victories. Windsor Class of 2008 uber alles!
