    Criminal Background Letter

    Advertisements

How do I get a criminal background check letter? I read somewhere that Windsor needs one, but I don't know how to go about getting that in US. Any suggestions?

Do I just walk into a local police station and ask them to write that I have no criminal record on police stationary?

I know this was asked before, but I just feel weird walking into a police station and asking them to give me a receipt that I am not a criminal. haha

Yup. Exactly what I did. I think my city charged 5 dollars and told me to come back in a couple hours to pick up a typed out form saying that I've been clear for at least 6 months. I was concerned with whether or not it needed to be from a state, county, or city police station, but apparently Windsor doesn't care (based off of what a guy in administration told me today)

As long as you have a letter or a form that says you're clear of any criminal activity for the past 6 months - 1 year you're good. You can get this from your local police department or sheriff's office. It's not really for the school, it's for the St. Kitts Immigration dept for processing your visa. The island frowns upon giving student visas to criminals, as you could imagine.

Haha makes perfect sense. I forgot that it wasn't for the school.

Don't forget to have it notarized! The lady who checks your visa application forms at the school is more strict than the visa office, and she will tell you to have a new notarized copy mailed if you don't bring one.

I had nothing notarized and actually gave her copies of all the originals of everything. If you bring it to her organized and complete and early in the semester, yo shouldnt have any trouble getting the visa taken care of quickly.

So I walk into a police station, get this letter and take it to notary where they photo copy it and add the notary seal? I am a bit confused because I thought notarization involves signing something.

I'm surprised she took all of your stuff. I went to her the second day and she wanted me to get a new copy of my bank statement because mine looked like a copy. I told her that its original, and if the visa office thinks its a copy, then its their fault.

Notary does involve signing something. I had to sign my Criminal record and the lady notarized it saying that it is my signature.

I just asked my dad, he's a notary. He said that it needs to be stamped and signed, saying the document is official and legit and whatnot.
