As everyone knows, tomorrow is the big day for everyone that is applying for residency spots in the United States. Anyone from Windsor that is matching this year, please say what you matched for. Congratulations to all the new graduates and future physicians!

Usually we find out later than sooner... Thursday the matched residents will know what programs they have matched into. And Usually a week or so later we will find out.

I will make sure to update the Windsor residents tread as soon as some of the programs start listing the residents. Most of the residents last year were found that way. Most of the older students do not know about VMD so we don't get many post from them.

If you want to help you can Google "Windsor university school of medicine residents". PM Future Dr.Dewar he will up date the thread.

my guess is about 10-15 residents this year....just because of the number of students actually at that stage...i say next year we'll see a large number of students....possibly around 35-40+...maybe even more

Tier system was made up....by a guy in the marketing dept of Ross. LOL

To a program director a foreign grad is a foreign grad. Half of them have no idea what island or what school is good out here. If it were based on what school you went to then some of these bigger schools would have advertise a 100% match rate. Just look at the numbers you have at least 50-80 students per class (except Ross), times that by three classes that graduate per year. Then you are looking at around 150-240 kids going into the match. (Based on that they passed the Boards of course) So, you should have around 150-240 students matching right? But, if you look at the official school web sites fewer than that number actually matched. Now as you go froward and that number will actually go up as the number of non matched students goes froward to the next year. But, anywhere between 150-240 is what it should be.

Windsor is a little late to the game and our larger classes 40+ started around 2006 so you should see them appearing in the 2010 match.

From the data I have seen from the NRMP these are the criteria they look for. (USMLE scores, USCE, LORs) I started a thread in the residency match forum on the subject. Also prep4usmle has a good one too. You will see that most students that matched..matched based on the three criteria i mentioned above.

Read and collect data from the people that matched....look at our residents thread. They were all in you your shoes at one time. They had a plan and executed it...

US immigration status is playing a lager role in getting residencies now days. The next 5-7 years will be very hard for students applying for the MATCH with out US visas. In 2008 only 48% of FMG matched and that percentage has gone down for the past couple of years. I would not be surprised if it were around 45% this year. On the other hand US IMGs matched at a 51% and I believe that number will be up again this year.

    United States Clinical Experience.

Also the LOR's should be from university programs>University affiliated programs> Dept.Heads community programs.

Yes, Windsor students do clinical clerksips in the US and it is considered USCE.

Volunteering experience is really helpful in getting into medical school. But, residency programs look more at clerkship experience, if you did an externship (shadowing docs) and research experience. The later two are done on a voluntary basis out side of your 72 week required USCE.

    Also check out this thread:
