    HCP program

there seems to be alot of people with questions concerning the Mentors in Medicine program offered at Windsor University School of Medicine.
The web site for this program does not explain all entailed as well as it could and Dr. Halpin, although i believe a nice guy, doesn't give the information detailed enough to alleviate the concerns that most of us have when we are trying to decide on the best course for our careers.
i will try to expand upon this subject; first the school is a vehicle to get you where you want to take your career. there is no real library or student union. low frills for you there.
second at the beginning of each semester, for new students, it seems to be a cluster, please refer to the other forums on new students for guidance there. my own experience is that no one knew about me, lack of communication between Dr. Halpin and the University staff, but i was taken care of promptly and am happy with my housing.
next you can either do your six weeks didactic or 12 weeks so flexibility is offered and the administrative staff is very supportive.
finally, the teaching staff is excellent and want the students to do well and personally i cannot think of a higher recommendation or reflection on a school than the staff that teaches there.
i know that I have probably failed to answer all of the questions people have regarding this program, if there are other concerns, please feel free to contact me.
there are also other threads within this forum that are both enlightening and informative so one should visit those.
Oh yeah and if anyone knows how i can put a picture next to my name let me know...can't seem to get it, thank god you don't have to be a IT guy for medicine or I'd be pounding nails.

    For More Information

    Advertisements

Good News...the University's president, Dr. ******, is taking a more active role in the HCP program.
this is good for a couple of reasons:
1-the information comes straight from the source and there is no confusion
2-He has developed web sites to further answer any questions.
    web sites:
    pa.windsor.edu
    np.windsor.edu
    chiropractor.windsor.edu
    nurses.windsor.edu
    all with www in front

The only point that may confuse some one is length of study.
you can opt for 6-week interval in which two trips to the island will be one semester or twelve week interval which would equal one semester.
as always i am available for any additional questions, concerns or comments or can direct 'em to the school

    HCP program

it will take you 4 years to finish the entire program, nothing different from the regular program: 4 or 5 semester for basic sciences and roughly 2 years of clinicals. to break it down if you decide to take the 12 weeks scheme you will have to go to the island 4 times = 4 semester, if you opt to take the 6 weeks scheme then double it which turns out to be more expensive ie plane fare not only that its tiring to pack and carry luggages every time you go back and forth to the island. i would suggest do the 12 weeks like i did and still you can work in between semesters. if you have more inquiries pm me.

    hcp

I called the office today to inquire the information about the hcp program. they informed me that in order for a individual to enroll or get accept into the hcp program, you must have to be a Doctor, Nurse, Chiropractor o podiatrist for atleast 2 years and currently working. Otherwise u will be reject into the program. This doesn't make any sense, why are they doing this. They should allow any professional to get into the program if they are qualitfy. It doesn't have to be in working industry for atleast 3 years. This is something new about this program. is it true?
