What to do if no interviews?

    Advertisements

I applied late this year due to my scores getting back, I haven't had any interviews and I applied to around 40 programs. Should I just wait until next year or should I still do a rank list/SOAP?

How will you do a rank/soap if there are no programs? Could u tell us ur scores (range) and credentials? That would help a lot of Windsor students. Which specialty did u apply to?

How exactly will you get any of the programs to rank you if they did not interview you and therefore have no idea who you are?

As an aside, I am shocked that an FMG in the current match environment would apply to only 40 programs, in ANY specialty. Barring a pants-peeingly good set of USMLE scores and CV, that is a pretty freaking low number. If I were entering the match, I would have been pushing 200 or more. Screw the cost... it is cheaper than taking a forced year off.

Not to further dump on silverfox but 40 seems very low. I know people at better well-known foreign schools that still approach about 150 applications. And interviews still trickle down to just barely doubt digits, if they're lucky (12-20).

You might have a mission on your hands. I don't know what your scores are, but if your resume is on the weak side, you may have been better off hunting outside the match, although many of those spots filled up by November while interviews were conducted from September through November. A few Windsor students matched in programs like that within the past few years.

You might have to bite the pillow for another year. Maybe called the Monee office and ask for research opportunities or even advice on this situation.

Step 1 195 3rd attempt, Step 2 CK 212 2nd attempt, Step 2 CS Pass 1st attempt. I didn't get my step 2 scores back until Dec 3rd 2014 and applied that day. I graduated in May 2014 and have been finishing my MBA. I have spoken on the phone and emailed many programs. I attended the aafp conference in KS this past year and met most of the residency coordinators or others. I applied to IM and Family only. I only did 40 because all others had application deadlines that had already passed.

Your timing was horrendous. You get your scores in by the summer before ERAS open. Outside of that information, I have nothing else to offer. Other than maybe try again next year.

Looking kind of bleak for you. No offense, but it probably would have been better to wait until the following match year. But since you've submitted apps and paid already, continue with the SOAP/scramble. MAYBE you'll get incredibly fortunate and someone will pick you up.

On the plus side, next year you'll be all set with your scores and ECFMG certification. Apply early in September 2015 when the gates open.

same sentiments as above, waaaaayyyy too few programs, scores aren't great at all and you applied waaayyyy too late. You need to minimize your red flags by reapplying next year on Day 1 and have EVERYTHING including ecmg completed with as many programs as you can afford across multiple specialties and take whatever you can get

Because you both have matched, I wanted to ask you guys how competitive OP's scores would be for any IM program. I feel like I know the answer, but I have heard of people with multiple attempts or simply a sub-200 score on the first attempt that still match into an IM program somewhere.

And while that's great and all, many sources, like First Aid and even the NRMP statistics released make it seem like you have to hit 220ish as a US IMG and 230ish as a non-US IMG to be looking at IM spots.
