    Scheduling Rotations

    Advertisements

Can you schedule rotations thru MHC, AIME and the other agencies before speaking to the clinical coordinator? Or do we need an "okay" from her before we do anything? Bc I wanted to contact the agencies tomorrow, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I can tell you that MHC won't even speak with you, much less allow you to do any rotations until you have a letter of good standing sent to them from the Monee office. I assume the other agencies are similar.

You're account is balanced at zero and you've paid for semester 6?
You've taken Step 1 and given them the copy of your score report?
You've had your two step TB test, labs and titers, etc and given the results to Monee?

Yes, Yes and No...great looks like I'll have to wait a few more weeks before even contacting someone about scheduling. Thanks for your help

Is there a student out there that just started rotations (in the past 2 two months) or is about to start, that can tell me exactly what you did before scheduling? And approx how long it takes? PM me if you want.

There is a Facebook group that deals specifically with rotations in Chicago and in Atlanta. I think you will find most of your information there, especially more recent happenings.

Bit OT but Dr Margoles came in to speak to our class one day and mentioned that he doesn't know what students are doing in Atlanta and that they should be in Chicago or something along those lines. Can you shed light on what he means by that or if there's some issue with going to Atlanta?

I did half of my rotations in Chicago and half in Virginia. When Dr Margoles found out I wasn't doing some of the core exams because the rotations were in Virginia and there was no way in hell-o I was coming home after every rotation to take a ridiculous Windsor written exam, he was quite displeased and said I should do rotations in Chicago. So I think he wants to consolidate students to Chicago. When realistically we should be expanding our clinic spots and offering our exams online, like NBME's and whatnot.

Dr. M has been going around different places trying to get rotations in a lot of different states. At least he says he is, and I don't have a reason the believe that he isn't. The thing is, they're getting stray rotations in random spots. Last I read, unofficially, was that there was an ENT spot in Maryland or Massachusetts. But that's just one random-*** spot. And it's also a very specific specialty, something not everyone is going to want to do.

Still, I heard the school was picking up stray clinics in the Chicago area for high volume, core rotations like peds and FM and IM. But that's all that is left in a clinic in a city. People don't realize that many of the physicians they rotate with in the Chicago area are physicians that are not making enough through their clinics so they are turning to another source of revenue. That's fine, times are tough. But the few students from my class that actually made it to clinicals from 18 months ago know that the quality is not quite....there.

I think Dr. M is trying to consolidate everyone to one city because things get done faster in Chicago. He, or the school, may have more connects in the area and plan to expand more there in the future. So he really is thinking about the student in this case and knows that perhaps a few more clinics become available in the future there and more opportunities for students arise. Because I am not sure of the rotations in VA or Atlanta or even that stray one in the Northeast, but I doubt things move fast in those areas, or at least not as fast as they do in Chicago. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't do all cores and electives in Atlanta or VA. I'm sure you can do all cores in these locations, but the number of spots in Chicago just have to contain a wider variety and a greater number of electives for students.
