    Hello Siverfox:

I have been on extended Emergency Family Leave of Absence--both my daughter and husband have been ill. Both of them were in and out of the hospital over the past 3 years. Recently I was allowed to return to school to complete the end of semester 4--the semester Path II and Pharmacology exams. Once I pass these exams, then I can move on into semester 5. I took the Path last month and failed as I expected. I know this sounds crazy, but I really needed to get going and find out something about the difficulty of the retakes as they currently stand. As I expected, the exam was quite challenging. However, the exam may have seemed easier had I been better prepared.

I need some advice or guidelines about how best to get back into the swing of things. I have Kaplan, First Aid, Robbins, and BRS for Path. I have decided to use Lippincott and Kaplan for Pharm. What do you advise?

    Thanks,
    JR

I would recommend using Goljan for Path, he is probably the best. The new Doctors in Training Pharm videos would also be good to get back into it.

    Hello Siverfox:

Thanks for your prompt reply. I do have Goljan, but not Doctors. I have Kaplan.

What question bank are most students using for Carbondale retake exams? I will certainly appreciate your help.

Using the proper question bank and learning the material as if you were ready to take the step is the best approach when approaching the fifth semester exams. Their questions generally are easier than the step questions but they are also a bit tougher than the usual Windsor block exam questions.

PnS11, can I ask where you're at in the grand scheme of school now?

Thanks a lot for posting about the updates and changes from MD1-5. I'm sure future/present students appreciate it greatly.

i have passed the step but really dropped the ball on registering for this semester so i am instead trying to set up rotations to finish out this year from the september semester.

i have many friends that started premed when i was md1 two years back and they are my liaison for the happenings on the island and the future of the school as they completing MD3/4/5 right now. that's how i know so much. also the changes are so vast, it's worth informing future students before they start at the school. like the school requiring an MCAT for joining MD1, otherwise they start in premed. not sure how hard and fast the rule is, especially for those NOT from the states that don't take the MCAT but still have a bachelor's from their country.

stuff's worth keeping tabs on. they're trying to remove the school from being the punchline of every caribbean med school joke. we'll see how long it lasts and well it works.

the disorganization is still rampant, and one could say it has even increased since 2010/11/12 when most of us were still there.
