does order of core rotations matter?

    Advertisements

1- Is there a recommended order of rotations that a student should complete? Or is order insignificant.

2- Would it be a bad idea to start off with Internal medicine for one's first rotations? This is assuming one has no clinical experience but prepared themselves well for the rotation (by reading bates and the internal medicine book). If so, are there any students that started off their clinicals with internal medicine and what was the experience like?

I started my Internal Medicine rotation first and I am currently in my 7th week. I think it is fine to start IM first. I don't find it too hard. I think it is comparable to a FM rotation other than it only focuses on adult medicine. I am using the Step-Up to Medicine book for IM and it seems to be working just fine.

I'm on FM now, next is Peds, then IM, order isn't particularly important although I do like starting with FM since it gives a really good into to clinical medicine and lots of H&P practice as well as a full spectrum of medicine prior to starting IM, peds or OBGyn
