passed and here is my experience

    Advertisements

I cleared my step 3 no more usmle in my life and I want to thank you every body in the forum, i used to visit this forum on and off and this is pay back time.
I studied for 2 months ,did a reading of step 3 notes ,I liked surgery ,rest of them were the same as step 2 notes .I did NMS(60%)before reading any material so as to assess where I stand ,then did a revision of step 2 notes and did KAPLAN(64%) and USMLEWORLD Q-bank(54%)and USMLE cd(70%) and Usmle CCS.I think the explanations given in USMLEWORLD Q-bank helped me a lot and made a notes of the questions which I answered wrong and repeatedly went through that notes .I studied Crush step 3 for revising .I would advice you to study ETHICS from Washington ethics, online it was very useful for me ,I got lots of questions from that .Did USPSTF recommendations ,you can google it and find that site online for recent changes in screening .I did Cardiology and EMERGENCY medicine from VIRTUAL HOSPITAL-IOWA family practice hand book .It was very useful. Use dermatlas.com for Dermatology.

Coming to the exam day, I was very relaxed for the first day sitting for the exam for 7 hrs as I did simulation of the exam with Q banks, used to continuously do Q bank for 7 hrs. Most of the questions from office setting were from GERIATRICS and PAEDS, had lots of ETHICS questions, Washington ethics gives you a very good idea of how to handle them, not much of statistics I would say. As it is for most of them inpatient block questions were very lengthy. Lots of DERMATOLOGY pictures, you should be familiar of the common skin conditions of how they look like.
On the second day of the exam, the questions were very short and much more easier but the real fix for me were the CCS cases, one of my patient became unresponsive, two were very bad and four cases were ok. So I was really afraid whether I would clear my exam, so donít worry even if you mess 2 cases .Just be prepared that you will get 2 new cases other than the Usmle CCS cases, you can manage them. Even I was comfortable while I was practicing the software I was not advancing the clock fast enough to see the response in the patient. Especially in office setting you can lose some points if you call them frequently, as they have to pay their co-pay every time they visit you, so it may not be the most cost efficient method to the patient.
You are never prepared 100% it is not as difficult as people tell so donít be scared, go and give your best shot. I will be around the forum for 2 more days and will be happy to answer your questions if I can. Hope my experience helped some people. GOOD LUCK TO EVERY BODY, BELEIVE IN YOURSELF, YOU CAN DO IT.

    help

I'm glad you passed! I am wondering what your score was. I'm trying to predict if I should move my test date back to study more. I did Q book (avg.74%), and my Q bank is 62%. The usmle cd score was 85%. I am really worried about STEP 3 because when I did Q bank for step 2 I was scoring in the high 80's.
Any advice and feedback is much appreciated.
    congratulations again!

    congrats

Congratulations Vir! I can exactly imagine how you feel about no more usmles and hope to feel the same way when my test results arrive, which should be tomorrow or on Saturday. I was just curious- how did you do at CCS and what was your score?

    step 3

hi vir, congratulation!!!!! I am taking my step 3 and have a lot doubt. I am doing Q bank from kaplan and my cummulative performace is 72% ...some subject I do 62% others 78% ( pschi, gyn) but those questions are not timed meaning, I really analize each question. I just want to know if you did it the same or you did the questions timed...any advise will be appreciated

    TO lazy to log in

hii my score was 81%,you need not wait for the score to arrive in mail you can call any program co-ordinator even if u did not interview there and can ask them to download your transcript in eras and they can telll your score, for this you need to keep automatic transmission of the transcript ,otherwsie you can wait for the mail .good luck for the result .as i said in my earlier post ,1 pt was unresponsive,2 i did bad and 4 cases were ok.
