    Practice and First Aid

Sorry to hear that you failed CS. But keep your spirit up and go and retake it. I used First Aid and a lot of practice. I went through First Aid cases twice, once with a partner than all by myself considering all the pitfalls (meaning I thought about what would happen if I get this case but run out of time, lose my concentration, patient becomes angry, etc). The subjects in Houston are bad actors and very intimidating so ask the student you are practicing with to be cold and intimidating. Practice with a student that is taking CS or took CS in the past. Don't practice with family or friends that joke and are not serious. You should feel intimating when you speak to this person.

Also for everyone else out there. I made serious mistakes during the exam and still passed. I took my exam in Houston. So just practice hard and you should be fine. The mistakes I made. I ran out of time on 12/12 cases. No conclusion or counseling 12/12 cases. Had no clue what the problem was with the SP on 5/12 cases. But nevertheless typed all my PN and used up all the space available and gave 5 differentials whatever came to my mind. When nothing comes to mind write Cancer or Tumor as one of your differential. Always go for big things. Don't trick yourself in thinking that this is a harder case than you make it. All cases are big things. Things that you would see in clinic not the ER.

Hey monsoonrain,I'm really sorry to hear that .I don't know wether u remember me ,u were such a great help and u are an excellent student .
As u said it's really fate. But here is what I think is really matters
The basic knowledge and lots and lots of practice.
I think u should go for cs as soon as possible and I'm really sure u'll succeed.
I gave mine in atlanta made so any mistakes yet passed .I used FA, UW I practiced all the cases at least twice .give u'r self less time than exam like I tried to finish in 14 min and PN in 8-9 min.
It really helped me I always finished a min erlier and gathered all the info during that time .Whatever the complain is ask all about it and relevant too.I used hand washing time to ask social Hx.
I wrote the dd and Inv first then the narration later at lest 3-4 diagnosis some had only two. So I think what really matters is probable right dx.
If u have any q fell free to ask .
I wish you all the best.

    Thank you for your advice

Thank you all for your advice.. I had to give up my dreams to apply for this year match..as there is no way that I could take the CS test before Next year.I don't understand how could I get high performance score in CIS and SEP. If I did not gather data..then How could I wrote the PN and pass with High Performance...Anyway..I will prepare for the STEP 3 and try to find a research job before I can Apply for 2009 Match and do Clinical Externship.

    Hey Man,

it's NOT too late.. what he said is true.. JUST PRACTICE everyday but at the same time, check everyday and as much as possible.. as soon as one opens up, take it... I know it sucks (flight the night or two before will be a killer) but it's worth it!

I kept checking yesterday and five opened up, I took the first one I saw --> located in Philadephia... But you gotta check everyday and take it as soon as it opens because in less then 5 seconds, all five were taken -- No joke.

If you passed CK, definitely redue the CS and apply for this year.. you can still make it!

Sorry Guys .for my late response.

I was very bizzy to apply for the match.. I am waiting to get the CS result tomorrow.. I took it in Chicago.. I hope I did well this time..I've applied to almost 150 programs IM+FP+PEd .. Did not get any interview call yet.. May be I will get one after the CS result..

From My experience.. I think Chicago center was really friendly environment than Houston.. SP's were very friendly..even one SP helped me during the test.. I forgot to ask about sexual history..and was going to wash my hand to do PE. He reminded me by saying"Doctor, do you think it's an STD?"

I thanked him and asked him the sexual history questions!
