    CK exam experience

    Advertisements

Hello all, long time lurker and sporadic poster. I wanted to give back to the forums.

    Background:
I go to SGU and am a sub-par student, had all As first term save for anatomy. And mostly ** and Cs for the rest of the basic science years. Studied about a month for Step I and did as badly as expected --> 215. Pretty terrible...I know.
I did well in cores, all As except surgery...got a B. Also did pretty decently on the shelf exams as well.

    CK:
    Exam date: 06/30
    Report date: 07/23
    Score: 243
Studied for CK for about 8 weeks or so...on and off...coming off rotations.

    Self-assessments:
    I started with UWSA - 232,
then two weeks later did NBME 6 - 227
    NBME free 150 - approx 85% correct
NBME 4 - 206 (wed before the exam) --> this killed my confidence and just made me completely amotivated. My eligibility was expiring on 06/30 so I just went ahead and took it.

    Materials: MTB 2,3; Uworld
I highlighted the pooh pooh out of my MTB 2 and it looks like it went through the ringer..the cover has fallen off! I did almost 97% of uworld during my third yr rotation and reset and did it again before this exam. I made a little notebook filled with all the stuff that I read from the uworld explanation and used to study that during downtime. It became a review book in its own right.

    Exam experience:
Most of the answers felt very ambiguous to me, I could narrow down to 2 and then just picked one. I took breaks after every block. I also punched my pancreas during every break by drinking snapple, Dave Chapelle's Purple Drink , energy drink and two PB&J sandwiches during my longer break. At the end, my brain said "f u" to me and went on vacation. I didn't really run out of time but had close calls with one or two blocks with only a few sec remaining.

As I said before a very sub-par student. I am writing this for all the underachievers out there
Anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

    wow

How did you do so well feeling like you did?! That is an amazing score!!
I just finished the exam (CK) last Saturday and left feeling like I totally bombed it, but I know that's not possible because
I just took Step 3 last March (long story) and got a 226, and studied my *** June/July/August for Step 2.
I hope I have a 'surprise score' experience like you, but I didn't leave the exam feeling that way. Same feeling:
long stems, lots of distractors, incredible feeling of time-pressure, then breaking it down to what seem like two very viable answers.
Towards the end my brain was just sparking-out. Truly a test of endurance as much as anything else, and the ability not to freak-out.
BTW, not to scare anyone, but I thought Step 2 CK was much harder than Step 3, or maybe it's just that
basic science is so ancient to me now. Anyway, congrats on your score and best wishes.

    Hi there.

I had the exact same feeling and so did a lot of people if you read the CK experience. But most ended up doing well as I am sure you did as well.
I think there should be a disclaimer at the CK exam stating "It is normal to experience feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness and abject terror as you await your score".

You did very well on STEP 3. Would you mind sharing the sources that you used? Thanks.
