    Worried in a Weird Way

    Advertisements

Ok, so I have step 2 CK coming up in about 5 days.

    Step 1 - mid 240's.

If i do worse on step 2, then any weight from step 1 comes down.

Right now, i'm burned out on studying, but i feel like i need to keep chugging along.

I am 50% through USMLE world - 67%, and did the NBME a week ago and got a 650.

Should I try to finish USMLE world in 5 days, or should I go back over some of the high yield points?

Or should i try NBME 3 or 4, or just try and relax and be mentally prepared and refreshed for the exam?

I feel like a 99 is possible again, I just don't want to waste the last few days I have...

    Any advice?

    Update

An update in the hopes of helping others who might be struggling with the same last minute anticipation that I had.

In the last few days before the exam I did several things.

    1. I touched up some of the high yield points in OB from Kaplan, because I knew they were certain to show up. Also, went through some high yield cardio and GI.

    2. I took NMBE three, and I found that it was very difficult, but it was an excellent preparation for the actual test itself. It is a poor predictor of score, because I dropped considerably from NMBE 2 (650 ----> 570)

    3. I hit the end of First Aid Step 2 and went over the HY facts in the last few pages in the book.

    4. I looked at Step 2 Secrets seriously for the 1st time. Its alright, and a good way to break up the day.

    5. The best thing I did ---> set up a stopwatch with 9 hours, and then do 8 blocks of USMLE World under the same time parameters as the step 2. I did this two days before my exam just to get a feel for the flow of the day. I had aroud 35 - 40% of UW left overall so I was still able to use Mixed Questions Unused for this. I think 8 blocks subtracted another 15% or so, and in the end I had about 20-30% left. When I started this task I had just bumped up to 68% in the overall UW program. In these blocks I started out high with 84% correct and then trended down through the 70's to as low as 69% correct, and then finished strong with a last block of 80%. Overall, during the 8 blocks I answered 75.5% of the questions right. These scores ended up bumping me up to 70% for the entire UW.

    6. I stopped working early the day before the exam. I only put in a few hours, but it was just high yield stuff, lists and the such. I went to the center, and found the places for lunch that were close...within walking distance. It was helpful, because there is NOT a lot of time and a LOT of test to complete.

    7. I did not get a lot of sleep before the exam. I just couldn't drop off after I went to bed, so I think overall I got maybe 4 hours of sleep. I do not recommend this at all.

    8. Show up to the exam place early. There might be a line...there was for me.

    9. Time management is key. This worked for me. 2 Blocks - Break - 2 Blocks - Break - Lunch - Two Blocks - Break - 1 Block - Break - 1 Block - Finish.

    10. Regardless of what happens during the exam, you will feel beat down, drained and probably not too good about how exam went. Go out, celebrate, and rejoice because the exam is over and DONE. I thought I'd blown it, because it was a tough exam.

    11. Wait in great anticipation. These are 3-4 of the longest weeks of your life.

    12. Celebrate with a great score!!! The NMBE 2 is the closest approximation to where your actual score will fall. My real score was 2 points higher than the NMBE 2 prediction for step 2 (my step 1 was 4 points lower that NMBE 2)
