    Advice People, Advice!!!

    Advertisements

    hello,
    I'm seriously stressing out now!
I've been studying for Step 1 since May, so this is my 4th month I guess.
I started off hot and going really hard at it, and now I'm kind burnt out.
I've been doing Kaplan through out and I purchased UW Q bank. On UW Q bank I have about a 70% but I've been doing the questions after I read each kaplan book and then doing the questions.
    I did NBME 1 and I got a 211 on it 2 weeks ago
and then I did NMBE 3 and I got a 230 on it 1 week ago.
I know have 3 weeks of study time left and this is what I want to do:
Spend 10 days going through the kaplan books again and just skimming and rereading the HY points. And then spend the remaning 11 days focussing on Firste Aide and doing questions?
I feel like my scores are a little low for studying for such a long time!
I just finished a block of UW path and I got a 68% on it, so I'm a little disappointed in myself!
I kinda think I'm studying hard but not smart and I know it, but I don't know if at this point I should just screw the Kaplan books and read firste aide and Goljan HY and redo UW questions and purchase Kaplan Q bank questions ?
What the heck should I do people! I want to do well, like we all do, but I'm tired and pissed off at myself! Plus when I come to study I get suckered into Facebook/emails and talking to my parents and I just suck!
Thank you, I know I sound like an ungrateful complainer, but all I do is study and get pissed at myself!
Lol, please don't tell me to balance, this won't help me at this point! For you high-scoreres out there just tell me what to do in my 3 weeks to boost my score!
Luv you all and thank you!

O my where could I start?

1-It is totally normal to stress out before the test.
2-Go to the bathroom and do pipi but do not urinate to yourself is a little gross, don't you think?
3-You got a higher score in NBME3 than NBME1, very rare, I think you are the second person that has done that.
4-A 230 in NBME3, do you understand the grading system?
5-UW 70%, yes understand is after you go over the subject in Kaplan, even like that is impressive.
6-68% in UW path. and you are disappointed , I truly have no good reply to this one.
7-This is what you need to do
first aid and Goljan HY and redo UW questions

    I love you to

You will do great, keep up the good work.

    470 on NBME = 211
    550 on NBME = 230
    Are this your scores?
Do not let the stress get you.

    Hey IMG,

Thanks for your support and laughing at me. I needed to laugh at myself...

I've been studying straight these last few months and been surronded by a lot of family stress, very unhealthy, whereas on the island I'm usually surronded by myself and a time crunch which I can handle better than this family drama!

Yep those are my NBME scores, I found NMBE 1 more trivial than NBME 3, I felt like NMBE 1 was asking straight recall whereas NMBE 3 I felt like I'd seen the material before and I could answer it if I couldn't remember it by using logic, without reading all the answers!

Cool thanks for the insight, I appreciate it. I don't think I can go through those Kaplan books again...its just too much for me at this point.

Lol, thanks again IMG..i'm thankful this forum is anonymous like this...I think I've kinda embarassed myself! LOL ok, I'm going to go aim in toilet right now and not at myself (I loved that, that was hilarious)!

Come exam day I will be praying I pass and not worrying about numbers. The thing is though when you read posts, the people that post are like oh i got a 250 on the NMBME I scored 5something and stating their excellent MLE scores with less studying time and I look at myself and how hard I been going and I'm barely making my goal I guess....but I think thats my first mistake. Golden rule in med school: don't listen to other people/don't compare to other people!

    K IMG luv ya too

Hey my friend I did not wanted to offend you in any way, but let me tell you that people have the tendency to sometimes lye on their grades. People that you see with 99 sometimes actually they only got a 86, but they feel dumb and think is a low grade. How do I know this, because they have been honest with me when I have ask they have told me the truth.
Now that people actually get 99 and above 230 YES they do, and is not uncommon, but neither is like o let me get the door o what is this? a 99 cool let me keep it.

With a 230 in NBME3 you are at risk of been a 99 yourself or at least very close.

Also is totally normal to feel underwhelm and in top of that have the family that actually do not understand completely about this test.

You will do Excellent. Do not get down on your self, just know that you are at risk of getting a 240, so go to the test with that number.
