    eligibility problem for IMG

    Advertisements

    Hi all,
I am an IMG from China with qualified medical degree and my school is listed on IMED. But my major was Acupuncture although we learnt all medical courses(including basic and clinical medicine). However I was just rejected by ECFMG indicating what I learnt is not medicine. I am prepareing to write an appeal letter.

Does anyone here have similar experience, or does anyone know who shall I appeal to? Once I am rejected, is there still a chance to get approved?

Any suggestions are really needed and deeply appreciated.

Your school has to be an ECFMG member. Also acupuncture is not considered allopathic medicine in the US. So you have several strikes against you. You would be considerd a Doctor of Oriential medicine. So I doubt you will get anywhere with them without legal help.

I call it like I see it. I am not paid by ValueMD or any school. Nor do I recruit for any school.

I think only Medicine (subject) is accepted by ECFMG. If it is not Medicine degree on your graduation certificate, even your school on the list, you won't get accepted. I heard somebody graduated from China and got Medicine degree, but translator used Medical Science also get rejected.

Thank you so much jameslynton and YuQX for your reply.

My degree is 'Bachlor of Medicine' in China which is accepted by ECFMG. YuQX, may I ask you whether the person whose degree was translated wrong was finally approved?

    Many Thanks again

I don't know that person, it's my translator told me. He almost made that mistake to me as well, but I corrected him. So, if you are Bachlor of Medicine, you should be fine. Don't put Acupuncture whatever on there.
