    Need Advise, 390...

    Advertisements

Hello, I have been learning so many things from all of you so, first of all, thank you very much.
I need an advise... Since I read so many memo about NBME test, I just took it. I took 2nd test. And I only scored 390. My exam is 10 days away... SHould I postpone or should I go for it? Everybody is saying that 400 should be the minimum predictor score to pass the step1 test...don't know what to do...

    thanx

Ok, I have been viewing this forum for a long time now and want to give some of you advice. I continue to see that 400 should be the cut off number. I took the nbme a month before my test and score low 340 (bad, I was upset). I continued to look to this forum to get me motivated! I took a review course, qbank, ect. I started really putting in the time, used first aid and step up together (after the nbme test). I was too scared to take the second nbme- and just went for it.
I passed with a 190 not the greatest score, but a first time pass. And my performance profile was improved overall on the usmle. The way I look at it is I passed and yes it wasn't over 200, but I believe for a residency spot, I am still ahead of someone who had failed the first time and may have scored better than me on the 2nd attempt.
If you are anything like me I tend to do better on tests when stressed and not at home in my office getting distracted. So I recommend taking any nbme tests at the library or somewhere else.
Anyways, this is my story and I hope it helps.... Go For It!!

    Not 450

While a 450 is certainly a nice score, according to the Score Interpretation Guide on the NBME website, a 450 is equivalent to a 206 on Step 1.

You'll need a minimum of 380 on the NBME Self-Assesment to be reasonably sure you'll just barely pass.

    Hi, guys.
I just finished NBME3 this morning. I got a score 400 immediately at the end of the test. But when I checked the left column of the NBME services window interface, the “Sample Performance Report” gave me a PDF file shows the score 430. I am so confused, any one has any idea? Please help me. If the score is 430, I will go to the exam in 10 days. If it is 400, I am going to extend for extra 2 weeks.
    Any suggestion, thanks a lot!

    Well...

Why not play it conservatively and extend for two weeks?

If you put in eight hours daily for another 14 days - 2/3 on your weaker topics, and 1/3 on your strong ones - you'll get in another 112 hours of study!

If you're doing practice questions, and it takes you one minute to do the question, and 4 minutes to read the explaination (12 questions per hour), you can do an additional 1344 practice questions!

Just my humble opinion here, but I can see how this extra two weeks might REALLY boost your score!

    Best wishes for success!
