    Wrote on Jan 18th

Hey guys, I wrote my Step 1 exam on Jan 18th....

My experience in general was.... interesting... I found that the test was much harder then the QBANK was and then the USMLE CD was. In general on QBANK I was scoring between 66 and 85 depending on the topic and Path and Anatomy where my high points. I have to say that I reviewed what people were saying about their exams 2 days prior to taking my exam, and it just sooo happend that from doing that, I got about 10 questions straight like that on my exam!!! HINT HINT!!! Basically though, in general, the exam was tough. I dont mean the 8 hours, I mean the questions. Every question except 1 from each block was at least 5 lines long, and there was very tricky wording. Time wise, I normally take 1 minute per question and have about 10 minutes left at the end of each block, but on the Step 1 I was going to the last minute (yes I did answer everything).... ummm... what else... alot of the questions gave you all this info at the beginning and then asked you something completely off topic at the end.... this made me think that I should have read the question first and the scenario second. And in general I thought that the exam was WAY TOO PICKY about the details. They didnt want to know where something acts, but EXACTLY where. A lot more detail than Kaplan even goes into... I have a semi photographic memory, and I can tell you that there were options on the USMLE that Kaplan didnt even talk about... not that I am bad mouthing Kaplan, cause about 60 percent of the exam I think was dead on from Kaplan (good job) but I really think that some stuff is missing... ummm... I only used Kaplan to study and First aid for Biochem and Pharm. The first aid for pharm WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH... if you can memorize those pages, you will do fine in the pharm questions. I think that if you want a closer representation of how you will feel on the exam, do some LWW questions (Lippencott Wilkins and W something) from Board Simulator. Those questions are about the level of difficulty of the USMLE unfortunately. I talked to people who took the exam last year, and they say that from all the people they have talked to taking the exam in 2005, the exam sounds tougher.... and a close source, has told me that they have revised it, and are experimenting with higher levels of difficulty... not sure how true this last part is.... But again, I found the exam to be hard, but not impossible, but that hardly means that I think I passed... I think I will be close....

    Hi

I took my exam 01/19/05 for the second time. Yes, I thought it was hard & picky. On mine it seems like they took out some of the behavioral as I didn't seem to have as many questions this time. I had a lot of picky stuff on virology & the drugs. It seemed those questions just kept popping up. This is my last time to take the exam - so 1 way or the other I'm getting on with my life.

Hey guys, okay so prior to the exam, I came online and saw what people had said about the exam in general, and I found that there were 2 areas that I was weak in. The first was in my cancer drugs, so I reviewed those, because a lot of people online seemed to think they were very important. All I did for that was I used the FIRST AID, and memorized what each anti cancer drug was for and the SPECIFIC mechanism of action. The second area I was deficient in was Clinical Medicine, so I went over some of my high yield clin med lecture notes from class.

As for questions on the exam, I will not repeat any of them, since this is reason to be punished by the ECFMG. I really wish I could, but if you read the article I post below, you will understand why I am reluctant to post them. Sorry.

OMG... Today I did the OASIS trick... and I passed!!!! WOO-HOO!!!! I am soo happy... I just want to thank everyone who posted on here, and all my friends and aquantances who said they knew I could do it, cause there were times I didnt even think I could.

    Thank you guys.

Also, the Oasis trick timeline supposedly (and this worked for me) is that you can do the trick for the IWA the 3rd friday after you write the exam. I am having a friend find out next friday so if it works for him, then that is how long you must wait to try the trick.

    Hi

Okay, so I finally got my score... Just to let you all know, it took exactly 4 weeks to get my score in the mail and I live in Canada. I wrote on Tues jan 18th, did the Oasis trick and found out I passed on Fri Feb 11th (the 3rd Fri after the exam) and I got my score Feb 15th (tuesday) in the mail. I just want to thank everyone who helped me, and say that if I can do, I know you all can. I started medical school, and I didnt even know that BONES WERE ALIVE, or how to pronounce Esophagus (I pronounced it ESSO-homosexual-US)... so if I can pass, so can all of you. I scored 217, 88%. I am extremely happy with this score, and I just want to wish everyone lots of luck on their exams.

Congrats dude. Good luck in Clinicals!

(I hate going to Kaplan videos... not sure if they are really worth doing. )
