    med school tutor

I have struggled with step 1 and failed at my last attempt. Has anyone ever used med school tutors, a professional tutoring business based out of new york? They help identify weaknesses and help to strengthen them. However they are very expensive, more than the cost of tuition. Please help!

Hi globalmd — I don't think we've spoken before, but I oversee our Client Team here at MST, so I hope you don't mind me reaching out. It's totally understandable if your trial session felt a little generic as we do follow a certain structure in our initial session. The rest of your tutoring should definitely not feel that way though. Please don't hesitate to give us a call if you want to talk about this further — we want to be certain you're happy with your tutor (and tutoring)!

They helped me achieve a great step 1 score. I ended up changing tutors when I felt I wasn't getting anywhere with my first tutor. You can request a change.....

I did medschool tutor before and here is my opinion about this. Do Not do med school tutor if you are in the beginning of your studies. They will not be able to help you. Let me explain further. When I was at the end of my step 1 studies where I was killing all my nbme and destroying them, i decided to use medschool tutor. My tutor created a schedule for me leading up to my exam and help me fine tune my weakness. It was all great, and i did well on step 1. I only used the tutor for 2 weeks before the exam, cost me around 200 to 300 dollars. For step 2 ck, I decided to use them again. This time, I decided to use them in the beginning of my step 2 ck study and to also give myself plenty of time before my exam. Worst mistake ever in the history of mankind. Apparently these tutors are only 3rd year med students who barely have any clinical knowledge at all. If they were to teach you from ground up, it would be a disaster. i told my teacher straight up "listen, im a fast learner, just teach me what i need to know." this guys spend one hour of my time telling me how it's important to read a book. It's because he can't teach, he doesn't have enough clinical knowledge to lecture. The truth is if you go into medschool tutor with a great deal of knowledge, the tutors can pinpoint your weakness and fine tune it, but in terms of actually teaching you the real material from the exam, they will not be able to. instead, you will get lectured for not reading a book hahah. When i mean fine tune, i don't mean that they will teach you the material that you are weak in, they will just offer you study material to read on your own. For step 1, I wasn't knowledgeable about any additional material that I should use for the exam that is why step 1 tutor was helpful. In step 2 ck, I wanted the tutor to actually teach me, which was not good because all the tutors are not MD, they are just med students who barely enter third year. Another funny thing is, when i called to change tutor, the lady fail to respond, i had to wait the whole weekend. When she does respond, i just told her "i gave up, i will just pay for my losses," I was shocked to find out it costed 1000 dollars and barely learned anything. Here is my advise about this company. if you are an IMG that have no clue about what book to use, then medschool tutor is for you. These kids know the pros and cons of all the books out there. If you are an IMG, who needs an actual tutor who knows his or her stuff to teach you, then stay away from med school tutor.
basic science (completed) core rotations (completed) electives (completed) graduated with MD (completed) step 1 (completed) step 2 ck (completed) step 2 cs (completed) ECFMG certified (completed) Step 3 (in progress) research publication (in progress) Residency (in progress)
