I need advice for step 1

    Advertisements

i'm an IMG and i need some advice from the community. just to give insight to my situation i am about to finish my 4th year in 2 months and havent passed step 1 and have 2 attempts on my record which i know looks terrible both almost identical scores (68 and 69 ). I have been working and doing rotations throughout as i dont have loans to pay for school so its my only option but i want to take 2 months off to really study for the step 1 and not have to worry about working in that time. What advice would u give in terms of studying? should i reread all of kaplan and do UW ? i last studied over a year ago and i dont want to leave anything up to chance on this go around with the exam and want to devote at least 2 months to intense studying.

    thanks for reading

My situation is a little bit different but kinda same issue. I need help from valuemd community too. Here what I think about your situation:
    - Do not rush yourself to give the exam but you really need to get good score after 2 attempts rather than doing well on the test.
    - You need to go to a Live-Prep course such as Kaplan or Falcon for a "6-7 week boost camp". These courses are very intensive and keep you away from all daily distraction to focus on killing the exam. Cost is around 5K. (not cheap). but u really need to consider about it even selling your car or borrowing from your rich uncle.

Isma, USMLE sometimes asks basic sciences questions leading to a clinical diagnosis. If you want to study for Step I, I can be your study partner.

After a couple attempts without any success, I highly suggest that you enroll in a live review course. This will help you manage your time, help you keep a solid schedule, and help you overcome the obstacles that are currently holding you back from passing.

I agree with a post above in that you need a great score to makeup for the failures, and you need something that will standout and make those programs look at you as an asset and not a risk.

    Best of luck!

    Hello Mcnutty,

good advice would be the NBME exams ..they were the biggest help ever for me , yes I did all of them and I agree fully with stateofequilibrium use them not only as evaluation tools but as study tools ....means do it as you study ...not after you study..the concepts behind each single question in NBME is the exact concept asked in the actual exam...so use it as a study tool ...as a matter of fact a very effective study tool that realy works.
you dont have to buy it ....i have found it answered and explained in a site ...but dunnno if is ok to post here a link ...any way if you want the link drop me a line ...meanwhile ...can someone tell me if is ok to post the link here!!!!! am doing step 2 ck now and i need study group if intersted drop me a line and as well if you need any advice in step 1 ..let me know.
