    ARP May 2017

    Advertisements

Hey everyone, I'm new here (although not new to reading the forums). I've been accepted to UMHS ARP in May 2017, and after having literally gone through all 41 pages, I still can't really find answers to what I'm looking for. Especially because a lot these threads are 5+ years old and UMHS seems to have grown a lot since then. I do apologize in advance if there are answers to my questions that I haven't seen.

Now that the school is more established, I understand that ARP is exactly what its name entails. But I'd like further detail. I've seen the curriculum and what it entails, so I guess what I'm looking for is if the material for someone whom is a science major in undergrad would recognize quickly. I also haven't read anyone having failed it... Which is promising.

My next question is how students managed to pay for ARP because it looks like Sallie Mae loan doesn't cover it.
Lastly, US citizens need a student visa, correct?

Congrats on getting accepted! I personally have not gone through the ARP but many of my friends have and they are doing quite well in their med classes.
I don't know the answer to your first question and more precisely, I am not sure what you are asking but I do know that some people do fail the ARP. It is like maybe 8% of the class. I can't tell you why they fail though.

I think you have to find your own finances to pay for ARP. The best option is to join the UMHS May 2017 FB group and maybe PM others as to how they are doing it. Another more direct option is to contact the finance department to see if there are other loan options available. Good luck

Thank you! Can you ask your friends how they managed to pay for ARP? I'm having a hard time finding the funds to do so! I kept calling the financial aid department of UMHS and no one would pick up the phone... I'm simply trying to find out what institutions they'll accept money from. I've joined the Facebook group as well, posted, and no one has answered.

Some students parents take loans to pay for the program and they cover their monthly expenses with their own money. You can minimize spending while living in st kitts by living in areas that cost around $500 monthly(rent). Others students have borrowed money from their family, everyone pitches in and as soon as they pass the program and get their sally mae loan approved they take the full cost of attendance, minimize spending and pay them back.
Find a way to pay for the program, I had friends that didnt, they decided to attend other medical schools that accepted them to the regular program and they are failing. I didnt take the program, I have friends that did and i can tell you that its the best thing they ever did, they have a solid foundation and are doing great now.

UMHS now has full funding for the ARP program by Sallie Mae. Sorry hourani that you came in before we had this! https://www.umhs-sk.org/index.php/fi...id/arp-program
