    Transfer from AUA TO UMHS

    Advertisements

I'm at AUA trying to transfer to UMHS. How are exams administered (biweekly, tri weekly monthly,) and are they cumulative . In AUA , our block exams are cumulative course and all courses are taken at once. The level of questions asked are not that bad the attrition rate here is high.

We have 3 block exams per semester and a final that is cumulative for each subject. The block exams for all subjects fall on the first Monday after 4 weeks of classes so in 12 weeks of classes, we have 3 block exams. The block exams only cover material covered in that block (4 weeks worth), but of course, you will need to remember material from previous blocks since the material builds on itself even if you are not tested directly on it. After block 3, we have another full week of instruction and 2-3 days of cumulative review the next week. The last day of instruction is the 14th Tuesday or Wednesday of each semester. Then you have one reading day before finals begin. Generally speaking, you will have blocks for all classes on the same day (Monday) with the exception of some classes like Ethics or Epidemiology which can be a week earlier or later. But you will only have one final each day and one of your finals each semester will be the NBME subject exam administered nationally.

The questions for the most part are fair even though they could be challenging and attrition at UMHS is minimal. In fact, in my whole year spent here, I have heard maybe 5 out 120+ students drop out of OUR class. I would honestly recommend UMHS if you are thinking about it.

Students take the Kaplan exit exam which is like a full length step exam on the last day of the 5th semester. They have to pass that exam in order to complete 5th semester and register to take the step. I have not heard of anybody failing that exam but I have not done 5th semester yet so I wouldn't know. Since you take the Kaplan course for step 1 in the 5th semester you are usually well prepared for that exam.
