Hi, we're applying in late 2013, early 2014.
Built in the tradition of the best US universities, the Hidden Content focuses on individual student attention, maintaining small class sizes and recruiting high-quality faculty. We call this unique approach, “personalized medical education,” and it’s what has led to our unprecedented 96% student retention rate, and outstanding Hidden Content across the US and Canada. UMHS is challenging everything you thought you knew about Caribbean medical schools.

What can you tell me about the "freeze" on NY approvals for schools in the Caribbean? Apparently some schools have a freeze on them and until those freezes are removed, no schools can expect a NY approval (even within a 2 year time frame).

Also, what happened with the school getting a gym? The president stated he will be bringing equipment onto campus within 30-60 days of this semester starting.

With regards to New York approval, we've recently learned there is a 2-3 year waiting list for applicant school site visits. There is also a backlog for the state to process school applications. UMHS is currently working on a database document and self study which must be submitted at the time of application. Once these documents are completed we will be submitting an application.

President Ross placed the first order for gym equipment last Wednesday and it's scheduled to arrive in early January. It's all top quality stuff – Cybex and Lifefitness.

We’re still on track to apply for NY approval in the next few months. It’s just a matter of waiting for the state to process the application and conduct their site visit, which looks to take between two to three years, given their current backlog.

Florida’s application process is much simpler, and there doesn’t appear to be any backlog. The main thing about Florida approval is that you have to have NCFMEA recognition before you can apply. We’re currently in the midst applying for ACCM accreditation, which is the stepping-stone to NCFMEA.

Super pumped about the gym stuff, will have to pass this info along to my current classmates. Where do they plan to put the equipment?

Thank you for clarifying the NY stuff/FL stuff. Someone should make this thread a sticky.

They plan to use the back half of the neuro lab as a temporary spot for the gym.

    No problem, glad that clarifies.

    UMHS official,

What can you tell me about your school's greenbook rotations, particularly those in the Chicago region. Can all rotations, core and elective, be done in that region without any major delays through greenbook hospitals?

UMHS students are able to rotate in IL at ACGME (greenbook) accredited hospitals for both core rotations and elective rotations without major delays. At the most, students might have to wait 2-3 weeks between transitions, and this would only be because the start and end dates of rotational spots have an awkward overlap.
