Sonia is correct, UMHS is ineligible to even apply for NY approval until they have their first graduating class in a couple months. From there the process is currently taking around 2yrs according to the NY medical board.

why can't the school admins just be honest, seriously what happened to a little honestly every now and then? do they think they'll really lose that many more students when they are just setting themselves up for lawsuits anyway. Somehow I don't see it as a win for them and it makes the school's reputation look horrible.

the official who posts here has always been pretty straight up about NYS approval and that application can't even be made until this yr's graduating class...that seems to be pretty honest...are other officials telling the students differently?

The schools all over the Carribean will tell you what you want to hear inorder to get your business. Don't forget this is a business for them and they want to make money. How else do they pay for the new campus???? In the long run, this school is run by people who've been there before so they know what to do and how to do it. The time is the problem.... There are so many rules to get approvals and there are certain time lines you have to hit in oder to get it.

Ummmm... what in the heck are you talking about. Good Grief..... how is a school setting itself up for lawsuits when they tell students that they're working on getting NY approval, and will therefore apply for it once they feel all of the requirements have been met?!?

The Admin have ALWAYS been straight forward about this issue, so I don't know why so many students have become so confused about it. UMHS wants to wait until all of their ducks are in a row, i.e. Graduating class, etc, etc, etc.... There has not been a single post on here, where the Admin has ever said that on Date "X", we will have NY approval.... instead, they've ALWAYS stated that we're working on it, and will apply for it when they feel that they easily meet all of the requirements to do so.

Either way, you don't need NY approval to become licensed in the state of NY. It just pertains to being able to do more than 12 weeks of rotations there, along with being able to do your residency training there as well.

i wasn't just referring to UMHS, i was referring to all newer carib schools that promise some things to students and don't follow through near their time line. I'll use Ross for example, they told students Bahamas was Cali approved (b/c it was a "clinical rotation site" not a branch campus. Cali decided otherwise, now some students chose to repeat semesters on Dominica. In the end it was approved, but had it not been you can bet your bottom dollar people would have sued.

I do know that AUA got NY approval literally like 2 years or so after opening once they had graduating class. I have heard from UMHS that approval will come shortly after the first graduating class, just like AUA. Class graduates in May, NY board meets in the summer so i figured taht would be a good time for the approval.
