    Undergrad Degree

    Advertisements

This is probably mainly directed towards a UMHS rep, but if a student were to enter into the MD program at UMHS would the institution be able to award a ** degree to the student at the completion of basic sciences or something along those lines (given that the student enters with minimum 90 credits)? I know a majority if not all other Caribbean schools do the same thing for those students without degrees.

those programs that do are 6 yr programs...2 yrs pre med then the last 2 yrs count toward the B S degree...no 4 yr program offers up a B S for basics....

MUA awards those students with 90 credits or more who were accepted to the MD program with a B S degree at the completion of basic sciences... that is just 1 example. I know what I am trying to say which is why I am directing my question towards the rep.

    Sam156,
I'm afraid that I haven't been able to check ValueMD for the past week so I do apologize for a late reply. The answer to your question is "no, UMHS does not offer a bachelor's degree." We are accredited to offer the MD degree but no other one at this time. (Of course, our sister school, IUON, is accredited to offer the A.A. and BSN.)

Can I transfer my credits over to IUON and obtain my Bachelors from the Nursing side of the university. Meaning can I technically attend both universities for the purpose of obtaining a ** degree. It is the same institution so therefore the credits should be able to transfer with the combination of my credits from my undergraduate institution.

The requirements for a degree in nursing cannot be met by taking courses in the medical curriculum. While they are complementary, they are also different professions with different requirements. For example, you would hve to take Foundations of Nursing, Fundimentals of Nursing and Mental Health Nursing in order to get the BSN. (This is only a partial list of the required nursing courses.) Each course focuses on the theory and skills of nursing. You can either enroll in nusring and take nursing courses or in medicine and take medical courses.
