    UMHS Experience!

    Advertisements

    Hey Guys ,

I've been reading a few posts by new UMHS students and i thought i add some light to the current situation regarding the school. I would like to share my experience thus far with the institution.

I transferred to UMHS like many students who were facing financial difficulties with loans at their previous institutions. I've heard nothing but good things about the school prior to transferring and most importantly the school offered Loans to cover tuition and living etc. Before i get into the negative aspect of my post let me tell you my experience thus far with the school. I'm currently in clinicals right now and so far my experience (from 5th semester in Maine to now) has been nothing less than excellent. The faculty and even administration has been transcendental with teaching, setting up rotations and overall communication. My BIGGEST concern was regarding the loan situation. Given my luck The school lost their loan program a semester ago and hasn't anything else in place. I know the school is offering a school assist program ($3000/semester) but it doesn't cover full tuition and the last thing i want to do is owe a medical institution money and not recieve my diploma, but that's beside the point!
We were told the school would not have a loan program in place for the Sept-Dec semester but WOULD have a new loan program in January. Now that January is here, I'm hearing nothing will be available till May. Given the current state of the economy Im starting to come to terms with the fact that the school will most probably not acquire a new loan program.

Due to these reasons I've had to enroll in the davenport program for extra financial support and its still extremely hard to just to pay tuition, forget living and extra expenses. Given this situation i just might have to transfer again to maybe a cheaper institution just so i can squeeze a few more semesters out and graduate.

I guess my point is that UMHS is a quality institution if you can pay cash; if your in a situation similar to mine then your probably better off doing an online program and transferring to a cheaper institution. I feel if you have to do an online program and pay upfront then why pay 11500, when there are other institutions that charge $8000 for clinicals. Without a loan program in place i don't see many students transferring or staying at this institution.

Sorry if i offended anyone but i thought i share my introspective opinion with you guys.

Well other than Loans... you would honestly be able to make the statement that UMHS's clinicals are good and the faculty has prepared you to the best of their ability in your opinion?

Besides the Loan situation , the 5th semester and clinicals so far have been problem free. Keeping everything in perspective, i transferred having already passed step 1 so for me personally the 5th semester was more about an introduction to clinical medicine and preparing for CS.
