    Canadian core rotations?

    Advertisements

I am hoping someone can clarify if UMHS is setting up to have their Canadian students choose to do their core rotations at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario Canada.

This was mentioned by someone on the forum talking about Canada IMG's, and I thought I would openly ask to clarify rather than go by someone posting. If so, this is huge.

I know the administration of UMHS also posts on valuemd; their input/clarification would be greatly appreciated.

    thank you

I'm not sure who mentioned this on a forum but I double checked the answer with our recently hired Dean of Clinical Sciences, Dr. B.H. At this time, we have no core clinical rotations in Canada and, at the moment, we are not pursuing any. There are some opportunities for electives, but not cores.

    thank you for clarifying.

It was posted on valuemd under the Canadian forum by someone. I see you have gone to that discussion and clarified that UMHS has nothing setup with McMaster University, but rather UMHS is in the process of involving a CaRMS representative to help students with the Canadian residency match process.

Thank you again for the clarification.

under canadian law you are not allowed to complete any of your 3rd year within Canada. It has been awhile since I looked at the jurisprudence but I'm pretty sure you can only complete up to a certain amount of electives during 4th year in Canada. Someone doublecheck me on this

a number of SABA students complete their core and electives in canada if they are from a certain eastern province.

I have also met a few guys doing all their core and electives in Canada from a school overseas; one of them is in his first year of residency in Canada and the second is applying through carms this year.

I haven't heard of the "law" you are referring to. I have heard that many canadian schools list policies stating they do not allow core rotation to be done in at their instition.

here's another 30s from searching Dr. Google

    IMG in CAnada

I don't feel like filtering through the actual laws to find it since I'm not Canadian and it in no way pertains to me
