I'm from cali, so obviously I can't really go back and practice there. Right now, I'm thinking of something east coast

I've heard that NY approval will come w/ our first round of grads, so in a couple of years? Otherwise, we've pretty much been approved by most of the states I believe, the exceptions being cali, NY, FL, kansas(?), and idaho(?)

Yay east coast! I was born and raised near Philadelphia and would like to stay in the area. It would be awesome if UMHS could get affiliated with some Philly hospitals so I could be here for rotations too.

we all wish UHMS would get affiliated to a hospital closer to home lol ... but sadly it doesn't work that way (unless your lucky ofcourse!)

It may happen sooner than you think actually. Florida is really IMG friendly, and UMHS has applied for their approval. Once that's done, then it opens the door for UMHS to get some spots there.

Well, if you deduce it from my post, we're approved in every state except for the ones I listed. The ones in question marks are the ones where I think we haven't been approved in yet

I need to clear up some confusion here. The only states that "approve" medical schools are FL, NY and CA. No other state has an approval process at this time. UMHS is not approved in any of these three. We have, however, started the process leading to FL approval.

Students from UMHS cannot practice in California until such time that UMHS applies for and gets CA approval. UMHS Students are eligible for licensure in the other 49 states.

At this point, I am going to refer you back to WSUcougar's sticky on ValueMD because he does an excellent job of describing what state approval means. (It means something different in each of the three states listed above!) Please read this posting carefully as it is a well researched piece of information.

It is not accurate to say that UMHS is approved in the "other" states. The "other" states do not approve medical schools and UMHS students are simply eligible for licensure in them.
