Hey guys,
Just curious to what the cell phone providers are for us when we get there and what are the best choices. Also if people could tell me how orientation is planned out and if we have to attend everyday, if it is necessary. I know it says from sept. 2-5 but will we be doing things all those days?

I think during orientation they give u a sim card to use.
About the cell phones, I think there are two big ones: digicell and cable & wireless (C&W). I think the school is backing C&W so if you get one of their phones you'll get charged less when other students call you (b/c chances are they are using C&W too).Quote:

UMHS official is back home w/ his wifey for the break, so idk if he can come clarify this anytime soon, but you don't have to go everyday. I didn't go on the cat trip b/c my asian skin burns easily under this tropical sun, SPF50 or no SPF50 lol. Common sense-wise, you should probli go to the registration day.
They'll give you a sheet with the schedule, so from there you can decide which days to play hookie.

I think some stuff has been covered but since i just got to the island yesterday i can tell you more..
Okay, the cell phone is given to you at the airport in your welcome package.. your can bring your own unlocked phone and put the sim card from the phone and put it in yours. other important things in the package, your voucher at local supermarkets... very important.. be sure to bring a brita filter jug (very important) i am currently kicking myself for not doing so.. hangers, sugar, dishwashing soap, storage containers (i didn't bring this either), cereal...
Orientation is actually from september 3-5 or 6 (it is important to go to all of them cos according to the schedule, there are different things occuring at each session so you might miss something important). Goodluck..
Well, Oiishi, the "wifey" and I are back on island! You covered the phone and orientation pretty well. You are right that we did do a catamaran trip las tsemester but this semester, we are going to the Spice Mill for a beach party instead. It is located on the southern most beach of the island and has become a hotspot for the folks in the know. And Oiishi...I'm going to tell my liberated spouse how you referred to her. :nono: I suspect that you will have more to fear than just a sunburn! :p
