    Long Beach Medical Center

    There now doing my Family med rotation. Good hours, really good group of residents and attendings, good teaching. Little slow right now since the weather has been nice and like 50% of the patients dont show for their appointments.

    Since you can only do 12 weeks in NY, did you line up your rotations to be pretty close to each other, states-wise, or are you planning on doing a buttload of driving? lol

    I was offered to do all my rotations in Michigan but they didnt start till Sept 29th, i didnt want to wait that long. LBMC is litterally 10 minutes from home, then im going immediately to the Bronx for Peds, followed by 2 weeks off then to CT for IM and Surgery. Finishing up cores in ATL, followed by maybe one or two electives down there. More than likely we will have NY approval by the time i finish my cores so that 12 weeks will be a non-issue if i want to do more in NY. Make sure you do well on Step 1 since it opens up more choices of hospitals for you.

    ATL is a bit far compared to the rest, but otherwise that's a pretty good lineup and proximity of locations lol

    I was planning on taking the step pretty soon after md5, but yeah, I want to try and get the highest score possible, so if putting it off until november-december will give me the time needed to make good use of kaplan/first aid/UW/USMLERX and earn those extra points on the step, then that's probably what I'm going to do lol

    I'm not sure how you made it through Kaplan. These 8 hour days leave me little time to review everything + learn the stuff gone over in class that day, so I'm more or less down to studying the sections I was weak in in the entrance diagnostic and banking on those questions to get me to the 48-50% margin on the exit exam. We'll see how this goes >.>;;

    Here is some advice, DO NOT USE Kaplan, IMO Kaplan sucks. Stick with FA/UWorld and RR Path. Drop USMLERx its far inferior to Uworld, go through that question bank as much as you can. Go through every single answer and understand why you got things wrong. TAKE the NBME or Uworld assesment exams to judge your progress and weak points, NOT KAPLAN. If you want to add anything to the FA/UWorld/RR combo. Try BRS/RR phys, HY Neuro and CMMRS and annotate that into FA but for the last month or so the ONLY things you should be using is FA/World/RR.

    I'm sure my Kaplan books would love to hear this lol

    But yeah, I guess I won't be using Kaplan too much after I get through the exit exam. I'll start looking into RR path (maybe +phys) and UWorld once I get home.

    Thanks for the advice!

    Wow, sounds like you'll be really busy for while
    Have you heard about how the rotations are in ATL?..I saw a poster talk about it a while ago, but it seemes like it was more outpatient stuff, and less hand on.
    Was asking bc I may be starting rotations in ATL w/in the next two months or so...

    Hey Jackets5. I tried to PM you but ValueMD wouldn't allow me to do so because I have to have a minimum of 5 posts in order to PM you for some reason (boo-hoo!). I was just wondering, were you able to schedule all green book rotations?
