Update on hospitals for clinical rotations

    Advertisements

In response to all the posts about "ohhh teh noooezzzz!! we all have to go to PR!!!11oneone11!!", the MD4s have had a conference w/ Mr. R and the Maine/admin people about hospital spots and the situation w/ clinicals. This is what I've gotten out of it:

    Licensing issues:
-CA = not going to happen for a while
-Kansas = school needs to be in existence for 15 years before any sort of "approval" goes down
-TN, NM, Montana, Idaho = they follow CA approval list, but there's nothing explicitly stating that you can't get a license in the state if you already have an initial license from another state.
-TX, Indiana = case by case basis, so it's all on you

FOR CORES - I didn't write down all the hospital names, sorry : /
    -Georgia = 2 hospitals; Atlanta
-Conneticut = 2 hospitals; Bridgeport, Waterbury
    -Illinois = 2 hospitals; Chicago
    -Maryland = 1 hospital; Baltimore
-Michigan = 2 hospitals; Detroit, Oakland
-NY = 5 hospitals; Long Beach, Far Rockway, Schenectady (sp?), Mt. Vernon, Bronx
-PR = 2 hospitals; Ponce (LCME Acc), San Juan (LCME Acc)
    -UK = 1 hospital; London

The reason why they don't have some official hospital listing is b/c the hospitals cycle on and off the list, so it needs to be constantly updated anyway. If I get a hold of more info I'll be sure to pass it down lol

    for crying out loud.....

Get WA off that dang Presentation!!!

They DO NOT follow that stupid list. St Matthews has matched 3-4 students in WA for the past 3-4 years.... and they're on the Cali Disapproved List..... good grief... WA has never once followed this list... Students from MUA, AUA, St. Eustatius, etc match Grads in WA EVERY YEAR! This wouldn't be possible if WA used the Cali List.

    Washington is UMHS Friendly

St Matthews Grads Matching in Programs located in WA:
St. Matthew's University | 2009 St. Matthew's University School of Medicine Match Results by
St. Matthew's University | 2010 St. Matthew's University School of Medicine Match Results by

There are other Grads from SMU that pre-matched into residency programs in WA as well, but chose not to be listed on the SMU's website.

Here's another Residency Program in WA that has Grads from MUA and St Eustatius in them
Central Washington Family Health Residency Program

AUA has Grads in WA as well....
    2009 Residency Appointments | AUA

I've listed the WA Req for Licensure straight from the Med Board's website as well in a different thread, which verify that the WA doesn't use the Cali List.

    We're Family oishii_onigiri

"technically" Idaho Doesn't Use the Cali List either.... they're just Anti-IMG... which is why they have the req that ALL IMG's can't get licensed in the state of Idaho until they're received their First License in another state.

So I see that UMHS has rotations in NY... does anyone know if they will at least be getting Florida and NY approval anytime soon if not California?

    Hey Sam,
If AUA can get NY approval before a graduating class, I'm sure there's a way around it for UMHS.

NY and FL should be soon. I believe all the paperwork is done and we're just waiting on coug's class to graduate next year.

Cali is going to be a long time down the road so it's nothing to worry about right now lol

Thank you for sharing this information! It is nice to see the actual cities lined up with the clinical spots. I know a lot can change by the time we get to rotations next year, but it is good to have an idea.
