IMO makes no difference where you go to school!

    Advertisements

ok i may sound provocative or naive but really cmon folks....stop this nonsensical tirades about this school and that school. Besides the fact that certain states wont license certain schools or the tuition costs...cmon already. When i got in i was high as a kite thankful that i got in somewhere and i was going to become a doctor. I couldnt shop around! But damn a school accepted me!

I have been living & practicing in the tristate area decades and personally believe how important and wonderful it is to learn to speak espanol. i
I went to a school in 1976 some might know already, where conditions were truly despicable. We struggled like you will never struggle in your lives i promise you all that. Yet we were motivated, warriors. We didnt have the luxury of choosing this place or that one. We stuck to our books, we swallowed our pride lots of it, we studied and learned medicine in english and spanish with lanterns candles and went days at a time without water. We wanted to be doctors.
You folks cannot think that you will get the education you need to pass your exams to get back here unless you take the courses specialized for it and study the american books/old american exams etc etc. The DR i will always be grateful for since it gave me the chance to "study and gain entrance to the US medical system". But i did all the work. we did all the work . the school did none of it. We passed cos we busted our backs.
dont expect the schools differences to get you back here.
If youre determined and you book and book and book you will succeed.
In any school in any country in any situation.

Pick a place. Make sure the school is WHO accepted. and stop this
shopping around. There are pluses and negatives with every school.
whats good for one individual aint good for another.
My assumption based on years of experience is that life has ups and downs and that goes for the choice of med school. Be lucky you have choices but dont think others have it over you cos you fantasize that they are going to a better school. This is horsecrap!!!

    Medical School

    Dear losackmd,
Bravo. We all felt the insecurities of going to a foreign medical school. We eventually realized the difference was the effort put forth by each individual. The foreign schools are a means to an end. It is each persons responsibility to achieve that end. Without the intense work, the end cannot be achieved. To those in the middle of their journey; study, study, study. This is the only way to get to "Carnegie Hall".
    Sincerely,

    University

I totally agree. Universities are a ticket to MD. It doesnot matter where you go because the university is not going to write USMLE for you. You have to study and put in the effort to pass USMLE. And all the university does is give you your ticket/ MD when you graduate. Which is what you need to continue in this career. So everyone should just choose and get started.

    100% Pure Truth

Yes-the ticket to be a doctor!!!
    Imagine , a DOCTOR!!!!!
Nothing beats it from the Spiritual or the material angle.
If you are spiritual, as a doctor you see God's work in patients, when he restores or takes away health or gives or takes away life. You begin to see his work at a closer level.
If you are a materialist, and you like wealth and fame, you get it as a doctor.

No patient will ever ask how much you scored on Step1 or from which school you graduated. And no school will baby feed you how to score at the steps. All and sundry has to done by YOU.Only YOU will decide if you are a good doctor or not.Only YOU will decide what you learn.Schools are merely the arena where you do your thing. A school is just a geographic location and nothing more.

Here's my humble bow to all the good doctors, spiritually aware or situated in material bliss with a request:Bless me that I be a good doctor,Bless me that I remain humble,Bless me that I learn to learn and not blame my teachers(Basically that means that I get the strength to sit with a book for 40 minutes at least in one go and not put the telly on).

    Adios

AMEN BRO! I really couldn't have said it better myself... in the end, aren't we all doctors? I don't see doctors saying to their patients in the middle of a brain surgery "Hey lady, did you know I went to X med school? AM I not da bomb?"

Once again, I set my hat on fire and bow down to such a truthful remark.

    Well

In the end, it probably doesn't. I do feel it is advisable for people to go to schools which are not "disapproved" by any state. That does have the potential to cause problems in the future. Who knows which way the political climate will sway. Politicians certainly don't seem to focus on anything logical, so IMGs could be their next focus....

Quality teaching can make a difference in how easily you learn material. You could certainly lock yourself in a room for a couple of years with a bunch of books and learn what you need to pass the boards, but having someone explain thinks makes that a less painful process. So I think you you are willing to really bust your tail, you can get what you want from any school. CHoosing a good school will make your way a bit easier. G

Which tristate area? Interestingly, there are numerous "tri-state" areas in the country.....
